Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.

Invitation Wording

September 22nd, 2010 @ 10:34 am by Mrs. Brooch

You already know I’m obsessed with having beautiful invitations. Did I mention they have to read well, too?

As you know, we’ve been thinking a whole lot about our invitations lately. Probably over-thinking them, to be honest. I am really torn about what we want and what we should do (DIY, store bought, online printables, big money, custom suites!). There are just way to many choices and…Wait. Huh? It’s not that serious.

I know! I know! Somebody shoot me already. I never thought I’d be this obsessed over words on paper. Sheesh.

Truth is, I am this obsessed. I’m hellbent on having beautiful, cohesive, color-coordinated, and unique invitations, and it’s made me somewhat of an invite connoisseur…Well, not really, but I’ve discovered quite a few awesome sets of stationery. My most recent find is a company called Wink: Rediscover the Value of Invitations, based in—you’re not going to believe this—the Phillippines!

Wink has really pretty invitations, and they are a lot less expensive than those I’ve seen here in America. We probably won’t get our invitations from Wink, simply because the shipping costs would be outrageous, but nevertheless, their ridiculously pretty and well-put-together invites have been great eye candy.

Also, they’ve got me thinkng about our wording. Here I’ve been so worried about the design and haven’t given the wording a single thought. While flipping through the Wink Gallery, I discovered an invitation with the most moving, thought-provoking, make-me-want-to-shout-with-excitement wording. Here it is:

TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A REASON. A TIME AND A PURPOSE.

ON THIS DAY I WILL MARRY MY BEST FRIEND.

THE ONE I WILL LAUGH WITH. LIVE FOR. LOVE.

*tear*

Allowing this newfound inspiration to take over, I thought, goodness, let me see what else is out there! Here are some other very romantic, at least to me, words I’ve considered using on our invites.

TWO LIVES JOINED IN FRIENDSHIP

TWO FRIENDS JOINED IN LOVE

ONE LOVE JOINED IN CHRIST.

I definitely love the (although a bit religious) spiritual tone of the quote above. It’s very fitting for the ceremony we plan to have, focused on our mutual faiths.

I don’t know what I was thinking before. Hello! What the invitations say is just as important as how they look, right? I guess all my searches haven’t been in vain after all.

So, the search continues—not only for the perfect design, but the perfect wording, too!

What did your invitations say?

I love that you put so much thought into this. To be honest the wording on the Etsy sample invite was good enough for us. Now I wish we would have thought about it more! Oh B, always thinking!

We used “Two lives, two hearts… joined together in friendship, united forever in love” on our invitations… AND we’re having that as the quote at the bottom of our prints from the photo booth!

The second one is what we’re considering for our invites, too! (When we do get to them…) I can’t wait to see what your final invitations look and read like :)

I LOVE the first one.

Ours said:
“Our task is not to question the circumstances that have formed our lives,
only to give thanks for the steps
we have taken down the path
that brought us together”

(FI and I are hosting, so it had our names, “together with Mini-Querida 1 & Mini-Querida 2″)

“invite you to witness our beautiful beginnings
as we are married and create a new family”

Honestly I searched at least 5 days a week for about 6 months for the wedding invitation. For whatever reason I obsessed over it. It was the one thing I couldn’t make a decision on. After ordering about 65 samples and carrying them around with me asking for others opinions. I finally made a decision and just got them on Sunday. I ordered them from glitzyevents.com (she also has a page on etsy) and the quality is outstanding and I couldn’t be happier. Ours read:
Because you have shared in our lives by your friendship and love we, …..
together with our parents invite you to share the beginning of our new life together when we exchange marriage vows….

I hear you on the wording. I’m kind of an untraditional bride in a quirky situation, so finding the right words for our invitations has been interesting. I’m currently in a state of avoidance so I don’t have any answers. Just wanted to share the pain a little. ;)

Thanks for posting about Wink. I am half-filipino, and have family going back and forth all the time, so this is actually a great way for me to save on great invites!

We decided to go for the most simple wording ever: “Together with their parents, Bride and Groom, invite you to their wedding.” Accomplished all I needed it to accomplish!
