A Little Love for the Guys

September 22nd, 2010 @ 5:15 pm by Mrs. Elephant

As most brides can tell you, when it comes to thinking of wedding attire, most of the time is spent on what the bride and bridesmaids will wear. As you know (if you’ve been following along), I have found and ordered my amazing dress, and the bridesmaids have decided on their dresses. Next up? The guys.

After seeing this inspiration board from Snippet and Ink, I was hooked on that blue and green striped tie for the groomsmen.

At first, I thought it would be a pretty simple thing to find; blue and green are very common colors, and lots of ties are striped…well, I was wrong. Really?? Yes, I was wrong. It took me a while to find these darker shades of blue and green in a thicker stripe. I even checked a couple of stores in person with no luck. After hours and hours of searching the web (OK, more like one hour, but it felt like hours and hours), I came across this on Ties.com (yeah, probably a site I should have checked first, but it didn’t come up at the top on a Google search of “blue and green striped tie”) and quickly bookmarked it for future reference.

I also checked out Tie Bar, since it was referenced by a couple of bees like Mrs. French Fries, and found these:

Either of these choices would work for the groomsmen. I think Mr. E should stand out a little on the wedding day, so we want to find a coordinating tie for him.

While shopping, I did find these ties for the ushers…

…and also this one:

But we decided to wait until these ties go on sale to buy them (you know, it seems like Kohl’s is always having a sale).

Well, a couple weeks later, Mr. E and I headed to Kohl’s one weekend and knocked out all of the ties (groomsmen, dads, and ushers) in one sale run! I thought that picking out ties for the guys would be easier than the dresses for the bridesmaids, but that wasn’t the case. Although I really liked the striped ties pictured above, after thinking about it and looking at the colors of the BM dresses, I thought maybe the navy would be too much. The dresses are more of a royal color.

But, as luck would have it, we found everything we needed in one shopping trip.

The dads will be wearing the blue ties on the left. I don’t know if you can see, but the dots are alternating lighter blue and light green.

The ushers will be in the light-green-with-blue-dots ties in the middle.

And last, but certainly not least, we have the groomsmen in the blue sort-of-pin-tuck ties on the right. Do you notice a difference? Yeah the one on the left is a darker shade of blue then the other three. Well, as fate would have it, we could only find three in the slate color we wanted, and with four groomsmen, that wouldn’t quite cut it. We found the navy blue and decided to just go with it and give it to Mr. E’s brother, the best man, to make him stand out. We’ll just say that was the plan all along. ;)

What are your guys wearing for the wedding? Did you have more trouble picking out what they will wear than you originally thought?

We had a navy blue and kelly green wedding too! You aren’t kidding about the difficulty in finding those ties! On top of that when it came time for the husband to get fitted for his suit/tux one of the sales reps said to me “He will wear a white tie” and I said “No he is wearing this tie, I planned the whole wedding around THIS TIE.”

:)

We ended up using tie bar and it was super easy, but I was nervous about ordering ties without seeing them in person. Luckily, we loved them.

We got our ties at Macy’s. One weekend they were $45, and two weeks later they were on clearance for $12.99. I snatched those puppies up!

Those all look so great together! We had the hardest time EVER finding things for the guys! It took months and was one of the most difficult things we’ve done in wedding planning so far! Ridiculous!

They look so great together- coordinating, but not matchy-matchy.
