I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". Tear-Jerker Shower Gift

September 22nd, 2010 @ 5:39 pm by Mrs. Barrettes

In my last post I wrote that my new SIL gifted me with a really sweet gift that made me laugh and cry. She was gifted a similar basket at her bridal shower and was thoughtful enough to share it with me.

It is a basket of different colored candles, with a poem instructing the bride-to-be when to burn them throughout her married life.

I held it together until I read about burning the red candles to celebrate promotions. Mr. Barrettes works so hard and I appreciate all the time and effort he puts into his career and our future. Followed by burning the purple ones on the birth of our baby?! Ugly-face tears, I tell you!!!

See! Not cute! But I’m sharing with you ladies because I want to to know what I’m dealing with here! The frequency with which I’ve been crying is directly related to the amount of time we have left until our wedding. All these emotions! I’m usually more composed! I’m not quite sure how I’m going to react on the actual day. Waterproof mascara will be my friend.

Did you receive a tear-jerker shower gift?

This is a wonderful idea!
My friends and family gifted me a Tastebook. That is, they all sent in recipes to my MOH, and she sent them to a company to be printed and bound. My Mom wrote a very, very touching forward. Oh yes. I cried.

One of my friends loves candy, so when she got married, I changed up the words and used differnent colored candies instead of candles - not that you’d want to eat candies in 25 years, but it’s the thought that counts - and there were definitely tears! So cute, and economical - candles or candy!

So cute! I did something similar for my sister, but it was bottles of wine. It had a similar poem and everything. I bawled reading it to her at her shower. I love sentimental things like that.

I had tears running down my cheeks as I read this!!! I am definitely saving this idea!

P.S. What is it about getting married that turns us all into crybabies??

When my cousin was married last year, my sister found this poem and we read it to our dear cousin. A few months later when we celebrated younger sister’s wedding, we read the poem and have decided to use this poem as our “family tradition”. Very sweet!
