About Ms. Sloth

She Bangs! She Bangs!

September 22nd, 2010 @ 3:31 pm by Ms. Sloth

I have had bangs for about ten years now. Sometimes they’ve been wispy, sometimes they’ve been longer and brushed to the side, but most of the time they’ve been fairly blunt, thick, and straight down on my forehead. I change my hair up often and have been growing it out for several months, but the bangs have been there, through thick and thin.

I love bangs. They hide my terrible, jacked-up eyebrows (don’t get me started) and make me feel like I have a hairstyle when the rest of my hair is ratty and unruly. Which is most of the time, unfortunately.

But there’s not much inspiration for brides with bangs out there. Add to that the fact that I am adamantly going to avoid “bridal” hair. I just want it to look pretty. I never, ever, ever wear my hair up, so I won’t be wearing it up for the wedding. I want to look like myself, just better. And that means bangs, and my hair down around my shoulders.

Here are a handful of bangin’ styles I think are doable:

Haha. Hahahaha! HAHAHAHA!!! No, I’m totally kidding about that one; it just came up on page one of a Google image search when I typed in “wedding hair bangs.” Can you IMAGINE?

But for serious, y’all.

Love, love, LOVE Jenny Lewis’s hair on the cover of the Rabbit Fur Coat CD. My hairs won’t be quite that long by the time the wedding rolls around, but I still think it’s doable. With some kind of cute accessory stuck in there, maybe? Huh? Huh?

I refuse to ever see this movie because the premise of it is incredibly offensive to me. But K-Hud’s hair looks really cute.

That’s more like it. You can’t go wrong with Miz Zooey!

Now you’re talkin’!. The headband brides it up without making it too bride-y (um, what?).

Which one of these do you like best? And what are you using for your wedding-day hair inspiration?

I like the headband the best, but that could be because I’m biased as I wore one for my wedding.

I have short hair, and like you I wanted to look like ‘myself, just better’ and I felt like a headband would compliment my regular hair style. I also took some pictures without, and it retrospect I’m so glad I did because it made some pictures for formal, and others more informal. Also, it was easier to shake it at the dance party without worrying about my hair accessories going flying :)

You know, Bride Wars was a surprisingly thoughtful movie. I liked how it brought up how different couples handle engagements. Some let it bring them closer together, while others battle it out about everything. It is a light and fluffy one, and highly unrealistic at points, but I’d totally recommend watching it on a wedding craft night!

I thought you were serious about the first picture and it was baffling. As far as the actual inspiration, I like Zooey’s.

The headband one is adorable! I love the cuteness of bangs on top combined with the long sexy flowy waves below. Zooey looks great too, but how fun would it be to shop for your bridal headband?

Hahaha. So glad you were kidding about the first pic. Zooey is my favorite too.
I will agree with miss Sand dollar about the movie though - very fluffy but not as offensive as it seems in the previews. I promise.

I did the headband and bangs thing for my wedding. I didn’t use the Jenny Lewis picture, but I used many Zooey pictures and the last picture as inspiration. Looking at the pics, I looked a little more like Jenny Lewis. It was a bit too much bang for everyday life though so I’m in the process of growing them back out.

Add me to the list of those who were fooled by that first picture. I totally thought you were serious and was so relieved when I saw you weren’t! I love the rest of the styles though!

I’ve been saving some of the same exact pictures! Love bangs (except those on the top, of course!)
