Shocking News!

September 26th, 2010 @ 6:05 pm by Mrs. Zebra

Remember when I told you that the invites were all printed and ready to be given to Sara for the emboss-fest?

Shocking News! : wedding invitations providence Photo6

Well…not so much. Oh, I was so cocky. I maybe even thought the process was easy peasy lemon squeezy. I really didn’t know what all the fuss was about. I took my superior attitude all the way across the pond. When I got back, I texted Sara about the progress. “We have a problem,” she replied.

Notice anything, um, off about the invitation? No? Nothing?

Cathrdral? CATHRDRAL!!!!! RUFKM?!?!?!

Oh dear lord, how did I survive walking this planet for 24 years? I can’t even spell. I made a rookie, rookie mistake. Every tutorial in the world tells you to spell check. It’s of the utmost importance. Not me. Spell check—what’s that? Thank goodness I didn’t already attach them to the shimmer card stock. UGH! Bye bye, $25. I hope you have a fun ride down the toilet!

Learn from me. ABC. Always Be Checking—spell checking, that is.

What Miss Cardigan said. And at least they didn’t have to point it out to you for you to notice. It cost you, but you still rescued the situation from total disaster! x

Oh my… i know that pain much too well. Welcome to the club. I spelled invitation wrong on our STDs. It’s such a freaking blow when you realize it! Sorry woman. I bet you’ll never let it happen again though.

I’m also pretty sure there’s no “and” when you write out the date, so it should be “two thousand eleven.”

Oh boo — but glad it was caught in time!

In my first marriage (I am happily on my second now, thank you ;)), our invitations were mocked up by us and printed by a local company. I am a writer/editor by trade. After the invitations were sent, after the wedding, after I had a memory box made that included the invitation, I looked at it one day and . . . gasped, because we had referenced his parents on the invitation as “Mrs. and Mrs. So-and-So”! Oh my gosh, I never saw it when proofing and no one ever mentioned it (although his parents had noticed immediately, of course)! Way to get in the good graces of your in-laws, eh? ;)

So my advice is, always have *someone else* proofread before you finalize! Your eyes just don’t always see the mistakes you made!

I printed mine with the wrong date! It was such a waste of time and money. I’m glad you caught it before you got further along in the assembly process!

I agree with Miss Cardigan - I got an invite to a bridal shower and the host spelled the Bride’s name wrong! Now, who does that!

Yikes, that is a bummer!! At least you caught it now instead of after they’re in the mail!

That sucks. If you’re in there editing anyway, I’m going to second the “two thousand eleven”, rather than “two thousand and eleven”. We didn’t party like it was nineteen and ninety nine ;)

Also, not necessarily a mistake but you spelled “honour” the British/Canadian way rather than the American way “honor. I obviously prefer it the way you did it, but I get into it with my American friends regularly. Colour/color, neighbour/neighbour, and don’t even get me started on centrepieces.

@Lauren: The great “and” debate. I sided with Emily Post’s wedding etiquette on this one but luckily our guests aren’t likely to notice either way. I honestly was about to send out the cathrdral ones because I didn’t think anyone would notice and it would be less of a waste.

@goodvoile: HAHA That remind me of My Big Fat Greek Wedding when they say “Rodney and Harry.”

@Chillmer: Oh that’s not something that is okay to be wrong. :)

@beachgirl13: Ouch! Hopefully it wasn’t too bad! Zeb spells my name wrong all the time.

@SapphireSun: Emily Post told me honour is used to denote a Catholic ceremony. I use “theatre” in writing too however. Just for funs :)

Hm, that’s interesting that Emily Post would say its correct to put “and” in 2011. “And” is only used in numbers when there is a decimal point.
But I do totally agree, most people wouldn’t notice it ;)
Anyway, back to the main point, I’m so glad you caught the spelling error before it was a more expensive mistake! ^_^ I’m so afraid that will happen with me hehe

Oh man. That is rough. I feel like you need to have other people spell check your writing- you’re too likely to miss your own mistakes!

@CrolsGalatea: Re: the “and” debate: including “and” is the English way; not including it is the American way. Either is correct for wedding invites. Since Zeb used honour, I’d say “and” works better. But I agree, guests won’t notice!

Man– I’m an editor and I didn’t even notice it! (I’m going to attribute it to not having my glasses on ;) ) I had to re-read it to find the error!

The one thing I did notice is all of the prepositions in the first part of the invite. I’m just nit-picky about prepositions though. (I edit a lot of theses and dissertations and prepositions are overused a lot in academic writings like that).

If you want some tips to get rid of them, but still get the same idea across, let me know; I’d be happy to help!

Well, now you won’t ever make that mistake again, yeah? I messed up our wedding website on our STDs and now I know to double check! Quick question, why “honour”? Maybe I missed it in a post, but do you have UK family too?

Awww thanks for your help ladies! This is why I love the Bee. Anywho, you all know I’m not an over thinker and the updated invites have been printed with very close to the same wording. I really appreciate your suggestions!
