The bouquet toss. Hmmm. I really thought about this one and if we would be partaking in the action. On the one hand it’s a bit dated and somewhat awkward but it’s also uber-traditional and kinda sweet.

Ultimately we went for it and the equally traditional and awkward garter toss (up next…). We played these fun games after the band’s first set. Since the band was taking a break, GM Seth stepped up and emceed the affair.

For some reason I look terrified but the ladies look ready.

Interestingly enough, the two lovely ladies in the front did not end up catching the bouquet but did both end up engaged not too long after our wedding!

So, who did end up the lucky winner?

My adorable cousin and flower girl! Funny, my aunt didn’t seem as excited as she was… :)

Married ladies: if you were waffling about whether or not to do a bouquet toss and went with it anyway, were you glad you did it?

Such fun photos! I love the expressions on the ladies waiting to catch your bouquet.

And I’m glad we did the bouquet and garter tosses! I’ve never actually been to a wedding where they didn’t do them, and they’re always in good fun in my family.

I went back and forth on the bouquet toss, but only because I wasn’t sure about the garter toss. I didn’t want to do the bouquet toss if two guys would show up for the garter. The more we thought about our guest list, the more single guys we realized were coming, so we went for it :)
Your cousin looks so excited to have caught the bouquet - SO CUTE!

We didn’t do it at our wedding but a few years ago, I got the bouquet and Mr TM (who was my bf at the time) caught the garter! Talk about fate :)

Looks like fun! Such great photos? May I ask how the paper lanterns were hung? IS that fishing line and did you tape it to the ceiling? Would appreciate a response. Thanks!

we haven’t decided if we’re doing the bouquet toss either. I’d like to do one, and I might, but I just don’t know if it will work/be worthwhile. I’m pretty sure I don’t want to do the garter toss though.

The problem is that I don’t really have any single friends. There are my neices and nephews (ranging from 7 to 3 years old) the fiance’s cousins (16, 19 and 26) and then a bunch of middle aged relatives in his family (aunts, uncles, second cousins…) who have either been married before or seem to have no real interest…

This looks like it was a lot of fun. We aren’t doing the bouquet toss 1) because I have terrible aim and 2) because our venue has low hanging chandeliers.

How fun! I feel like hardly anybody does the traditional toss these days. I’ll definitely be doing one after seeing these pictures! The GM announcing it is really into it, eh? :D

We/I definitely considered not doing one mainly because we had reservations about the garter toss. We had low numbers of single men and since my groom is British he had no clue about this tradition. In the end we only did the bouquet toss. I’m so glad we did! We did have a lot of single ladies who enjoyed along with spectators. It was fun and a great way to reign things in and signal that our exit was eminent!

I saw a twist on the traditional garter/bouquet toss somewhere (probably here!) that makes it a little more relevant to our times. The idea is that all women/men vie for the bouquet/garter, whether they are single or not. Why would they do this, you ask? The prize is way better than usual: the newlyweds then make a donation to the winner’s charity of choice, in his/her name. I think it’s really sweet and definitely something I would do at my wedding.

Yes and yes. My BFF and a good friend caught the bouquet and garter and we got some awesome pics because of it. i didn’t want to do it, but hubs did, so we winged it and decided that depending on who caught them we would either not do the garter up the leg of the lady who caught the bouquet or not. Those tow caught them, so it was one!!

@whatever: I’m not 100% on how they were hung since I wasn’t involved but I bellieve that it is fishing line and some sort of strong tape. Hope this helps!

I’ve decided that since I am making my own flowers, I’m going to make a bunch of individual flowers and put them in a bunch so no one notices, then when the toss comes, toss out one at a time so all the girls get one. Still haven’t decided what to do about the garter toss.

Originally, we were not going to do a bouquet toss or garter toss…just an anniversary dance. I had counted our single guests in attendance and thought that there weren’t enough of them for it not to be awkward. However, my friends started asking me about it…and I realized that they really did want to try to catch it…so I added the tosses in a few days before the wedding….it was fun!
