Having an outdoor wedding in October in Colorado can either be warm, sunny and mild, or cold, cloudy and bitter. Obviously, I hope for the former. Just look at the last three years in Beulah:

(thanks Weather.com Wedding Planner!)
As you can see, there’s no guarantee of a warm perfect day. So I’m preparing for the latter.
For our guests, we will have tents and heaters, like I mentioned here.
But to keep myself from chattering teeth, I’ll have this to wrap around my shoulders:

The wrap is beautiful, and I love the soft golden shade. But I also love my dress, and don’t want to hide it under a wrap until absolutely necessary. So what else could I cover up? Why, my legs of course!
Anyone else here a fan of Ravelry? That’s where all of my spare internet time was spent, pre-engagement. If you’re a knitter or a crocheter, and you’re not on Ravelry – well, you need to be! Moving on, I had seen the wedding stockings of another user, and declared them to be the perfect solution:

I actually started these puppies immediately after our engagement last August. But the dress I thought I was going to get was the wrong shade. When I ended up finding (and buying) the right dress, I was thrilled to realize the colors were perfect together!
I spent HOURS on these. So many hours that I can’t possible count. I had to knit, unravel, and re-knit so many times because the pattern was written for larger-legged ladies. But they turned out fabulously! Once I finished them, I had to decide if I wanted to wear a garter belt or sew in elastic. Due to the hip hugging of my dress’ fit, the garter belt seemed like it might be too clunky.
But I wanted them to stay up—hiking up my stockings all day didn’t seem ideal. Then I remembered the last pair of thigh-high stockings I bought had silicone backed elastic to help keep them up. Lightbulb!
After a fruitless search for silicone elastic by the yard, I ended up just buying a pair of thigh-highs with the “stay up top.” I removed the elastic top from the rest of the stocking, and sewed it into my stockings. The result was a little bit darker of a stocking top, but it’s not at all noticeable when they’re on. And besides, no one but me and Mr. Husky will ever know that! …except all of you, of course…
Post-wedding, I’ll add a photo of them with the dress. But until then, I will leave you with them hanging on the wall:

What steps are you taking to protect yourself from the elements? Did any of your projects take *way* longer than they should have?
