When You Have No Ring Bearer….

September 27th, 2010 @ 6:00 pm by Mrs. Earrings

…Where do you put the wedding rings? I know the easy solution is to pop them in the best man’s pocket or let the maid of honour handle them, but we aren’t really inspired by those ideas. Let’s just say that the best man is a great guy but *ahem* not the most organised of men, and MOH Earrings will be worried about enough things already on the day. Also, we love our rings—we don’t want them hiding in a pocket! (You know…just ’cause we totally modest like that.)

I thought of making a ring pillow/ holder of some type anyway (and just having it sit on the register table during the ceremony instead of it being carried) because 1) there are so many cute ones out there, and 2) I dont know when to stop when it comes to projects. Well…Mr E talked me out of that idea, but just for fun let’s have a look at my ring thingamabob inspiration anyway. I had lace, embroidery and floral fabric on the brain:

These ones from Martha are pretty, and look fairly simple to whip up.

And I almost fell for this one.

The bride used a small embroidery hoop for their ring holder. She embroidered pretty vintage fabric with their initials and a heart and tied the rings to it with ribbon attached at the top. So creative!

We also had the idea of our mothers looking after our rings and bringing them up to us for the ring exchange.

But…the winner is simple and sweet, and will take hardly any effort at all (phew!). I was flicking idly through wedding blogs one day, when this picture popped up:

Mr E. looked over my shoulder at that moment and commented, “Ooh. That’s a nice idea. We could do that.” Cute way to show off rings? Check! All we need are some bits of ribbon and it’s done. And I won’t need to be worrying about the best man forgetting the rings (hmm, though I might have to put notes everywhere reminding Mr E and myself about them!).

For those of you who don’t have ring bearers: where will you be putting your rings? (Apart from on your fingers eventually. :P) Are you going to have a ring pillow or some other carrying device anyway?

So cute!!!

We are having our Pug be our ring bearer. I am affixing our Paloma’s Nest bowl to his harness so he can carry them down the aisle. I hope he doesn’t get distracted as he trots down! :)

I love the rings on the ribbons!

We are going to have our Junior bridesmaid carry a decorative box with the rings in it. The box will also have butterflies in it that will be released with the rings. She will also be reading a poem involving butterflies and marriage.

I feel so plain. We’ll just be giving our rings to the officiant before the ceremony. When the time comes, she’ll just give them to us.

aw I love the bracelets! I’m going to show this to FI tonight and see what he says, though for an untraditional guy I bet the first thing out of his mouth is “But that’s what the Best Man is for!”

the ringbearer will have fake rings, and the best man/MOH will have our real rings! :)

That a great solution! We will give them to the MOH and Best man to hold.

We are putting our into the paws of our dog, (attached to a pillow that will be attached to her harness). Talk about irresponsible! If she sees a squirrel we may be in for a long afternoon… BUT we trust her and her desire for string cheese.

We chose to have a ring warming in lieu of a unity candle/sand/etc… so our officiant will have the rings and then pass them out at the beginning of the ceremony so they can be blessed by all of our friends and family before we put them on our fingers. but i must saw i love the bracelet idea!

Oh how perfect! That’s a new one I’ve never seen! I think I’ll let our 2 year old pass our rings off to the officiant - his poppa, Mr. G’s older brother, since we don’t have BMs or GMs.

I love these, especially the embroidery hoop. We lacked a ring bearer, but I similarly didn’t want our rings swimming around loose in our best man’s pocket, and as you said, you also miss out on the beautiful ring photos that way. So, we bought a small silver treasure chest and displayed our rings in there along with some dried rose petals, and our best man carried it in one hand while escorting a bridesmaid with the other hand.

Very cute idea - haven’t seen anything like it!

I struggled with this, too. The current plan is to have the “flower girl” carry a wand instead of a basket of flowers. I’m thinking of tying the rings to the ribbons that hang from the wand… which essentially means, I suppose, that I’ll have a ring-bearing fairy instead of a flower girl! lol

We don’t have a ring bearer, but I want to do a ring warming, so we’ll probably attach them to either a Paloma’s Nest bowl, or an old book, then have them passed around everyone there. I actually haven’t thought about who will be in charge of the book/bowl… hm….

What a great idea.
My fiance and I have a 6 year old son that will be walking me down the aisle. I am thinking that I will get him a necklance and put both of the rings on it and have him do double duty as ring bearer instead of getting another ring bearer.

What a GREAT idea! We don’t have a ring bearer either. I’ve been looking for a cute tin box or something to have the best man hold.

Dana, my son who is 13 is walking me down the aisle. I love the idea of a necklace for him. I might even consider a bracelet now that I read this post.

We too are having our trusty pooch as our main ringbearer…there may or may not be an additional little bearer (attempting) to walk our very large dog down the aisle, but that detail is still being worked out.
