About Mrs. Socks

12 Days and Counting…

September 28th, 2010 @ 6:52 pm by Mrs. Socks

Sorry for my absence this last week, hive!! I missed you and felt guilty for leaving you, believe me.

I’m waiting on many of our photos from our photographer from our civil ceremony, but I do have a few teasers to share!

First, I just want to share the two tiny little things that didn’t go quite right before the ceremony.

Originally, I didn’t want to see Mr. Socks until I walked down the aisle on our civil ceremony day since we were doing a first look on our big wedding day and I thought it would be fun to do it the old fashioned way for our civil ceremony! Well, that didn’t work out. I went to Philly to get my hair and makeup done, and on my way home, Mr. Socks called to tell me he hadn’t left the house yet, and it would just be easier for us to go to my parents’ house together so my Dad wouldn’t have to come pick me up.

Okay…I wasn’t thrilled with the idea, but he was right and it was fine. He saw me with my hair and makeup done, and it wasn’t the end of the world.

Problem #2 occurred when I got to my parents’ house and we realized that I forgot the gorgeous calla lily bouquet I had spent an hour slaving over at home. 45 minutes away. And we had 45 minutes until the ceremony. It wouldn’t have worked to go there and back.

I wasn’t going to cry over it, but I did freak a bit and wondered if I’d look stupid without something in my hands.

I remembered the grocery store that’s less than five minutes from my parents’ house and sent Mr. Socks to get me some flowers to hold—I didn’t really care what kind of flowers I got, but hoped they might be yellow since I had made a yellow boutonnière for Mr. Socks.

And ooohhh boy did Mr. Socks deliver! I love that man!

On to the pictures (where you’ll see his terrific save for the bouquet—way to go Mr. Socks and Shoprite!).

Some photos courtesy of Corinne Banks Photography, who we found through the Weddingbee Classifieds! Other photos were taken by FIL Socks.

My gorgeous, wonderful dress from BCBG that I bought for just $140! Not too shabby, huh??

Awesome save, Mr. Socks!! My bouquet was yellow, purple and white calla lilies-I can’t believe the local supermarket had them on hand! It was fate! And, I must admit, they looked even nicer than the bouquet I worked so hard on!

Dad Socks is so handsome! And what’s that? Are those my yellow Kate Spades peeking through? Yes they are!!

12 Days and Counting… : wedding ceremony philadelphia pro pics Vows

We exchanged vows, where I surprisingly did not burst into tears like I thought I would! I think it was just the adrenaline of actually standing there doing it that helped keep the waterworks at bay. Though there were no tears, I did have a weird face while Mr. Socks said his vows. I think I was trying to concentrate on the words, but for the big wedding I’ll have to be more aware of my facial expressions:

I look a little mad, huh? I swear I was just really really concentrating on what he was saying!

After the ceremony, we gave hugs:

And then we took family photos:

Then we went off and took some shots around the park! Above is my handsome, handsome HUSBAND with his cute little boutonnière I made with flowers we already had in the house!

We couldn’t have picked a more beautiful location or a more beautiful day!

I’ll save a few more photos of the ceremony and the photos from our amazing wedding shower/civil ceremony reception for later.

Ohhh, okay, I’ll give you a peek at our shower:

AHHH!! Can you believe it?!? BM Jess who is an avid reader of my blog took this post I wrote MONTHS ago and made this beautiful cake with her sister for us! I couldn’t believe how amazing everything looked and how many wonderful people we had around us that day-I feel almost selfish for asking for it to happen again in 12 days, but I’m so very excited!

I’m still getting photos in, so I’ll share them in between other posts of projects we’ve been working on lately!

I love that dress! You looked gorgeous and seriously, I wouldn’t have known the bouquet was from a supermarket if you didn’t mention it. It’s beautiful. And is that your mum? Her dress is awesome :)

It looks like a gorgeous day - I love the dress!! I am just wondering, now that you’re legally married, so you still feel like this ceremony wasn’t “real” and didn’t count? Just curious since this looks and sounds from your descriptions like it was a very real and emotional experience for you…

(i am not asking in a mean way, i had a civil service first and did the big wedding after too and both were incredibly real and beautiful in their own way).

I love this! I’ve been following your posts in particular, because my fiance (now husband!) and I decided to have a small civil ceremony first, and are having our “big” wedding October 9th. Your pictures look almost just like ours! We decided somewhat last-minute to have our “for legal reasons” ceremony at a gazebo in a nearby neighborhood, and it was perfect! Thanks for sharing with us, and I look forward to seeing pictures of your bigger celebration!
