Mama Plaid Gets Purrty

September 28th, 2010 @ 1:37 pm by Mrs. Plaid

Over the years Mama Plaid has been a great inspiration to me, an even better shoulder to cry on, and the best cheerleader a girl could ask for.

Mama Plaid Gets Purrty : wedding austin dress Momwed I finally got to be my mom’s cheerleader last summer at her wedding!

In turn, I feel she deserves to look just as beautiful as I will on my wedding day. From the moment I announced my engagement, she’s been right there willing to help. Granted, it’s been more difficult than either of us ever imagined with her in Idaho and me in Texas. But she’s still there for anything and everything I need and is also planning to come down here a week early to help with all the last minute things that are bound to pop up.

Back to the task at hand: finding Mama Plaid a gorgeous dress to wear to my wedding. She knew she wanted to wear yellow (one of her favorite colors and also one of our wedding colors), but she also knew she wanted to lose a significant amount of weight before she went dress shopping. So we had to wait until September before we could even start the hunt.

As September rolled around, my mom was 40 pounds lighter and was ready to go dress shopping. We heard about this website, Helene Bridal, from one of my bridesmaids, and decided to check it out. It is an awesome site! There are so many options. We both went through the dresses separately and then decided on one together. One of the great features of this store is that they will make it to fit exactly so you don’t have to get it altered!

Isn’t it gorgeous?!?! It’s great quality, fits perfectly and it arrived quickly. I’m so glad we found this site and my mom was able to get a dress that she loves. I can’t wait to see her in it on our wedding day! I also bought Mama Plaid a gorgeous silvery gray pashmina to wear with it if she chooses!

Where did your mom find her fabulous dress? Did you get to go shopping with her or did you have to shop on the internet?

We’re still looking for Mama E’s dress. I think the one you and your mom picked out looks great on her. Congrats to her for losing so much weight!

Beautiful! Love the shade of yellow, and good for your mom!

My mom had emergency knee surgery about five months before my wedding (coming up in December) - right around the time she would have started dress shopping. She was laid up in rehab for six weeks, and will need a second surgery a few weeks before the wedding, so dress shopping was going to be a challenge.

Instead, I brought my laptop when I visited her in rehab one night and we searched together so I could get an idea of what she did/didn’t like. We didn’t find exactly the right dress that night, but a few days later I was searching online and found a perfect turquoise linen dress with a jacket on sale for just $50!

I took a chance, guessed at the size and ordered it, figuring I would probably have to return it. But when she tried it on, it fit like a glove. :)

I am about 2 hours away from my mom, but we still haven’t went shopping for her dress yet. We do get online and click through the pages of david’s bridal, nordstrom’s, and Macy’s together picking things out. Awesome job to your Mom for getting fit!

I’m always amazed by posts about shopping for moms’ dresses - I had enough to worry about, so I just told both our moms to wear something they felt they looked good in, as long as it didn’t clash with the bridesmaids dresses. Your mom looks gorgeous!

@LittlestBirds: I think because we don’t live close to each other it was really important that we got to share this experience since she hasn’t been able to help with much else. Thanks!
