Let There Be Light!

September 28th, 2010 @ 10:32 am by Mrs. Elephant

During one of my many random searches of real wedding inspiration online, I stumbled upon this.

Let There Be Light! : wedding dallas decor lighting Elephant elephant

Source

Love it! I knew I didn’t want the standard silver cake stand that is supplied by our cake baker (for a fee) for our wedding, but I wasn’t sure what I would do in its place until I saw this picture. I love the added light from below, making the cake more of a focal point.

The best part was that I found this inspiration picture in the bio of a local bride who ordered all the supplies and made the cake stand for her wedding. I asked her where she bought the supplies, and she replied that she was willing to sell the whole setup at a discount! We met at a local Starbucks to make the exchange, and then I promptly went home and set it up for a little photo shoot.

The plan is to add some spider mums in the four corner votives and possibly some filler beads to hide the flora lights in the middle. I love the setup and can’t wait to see it with our cake on our wedding day!

Will you make use of any supplies used by another bride?

That is such a great idea! I think it will look great with the mums! If I could find some one near me that had used that setup I would totally go for it! What did you use to light the bottom??

Awesome! How did she make this? Is it just votives with a piece of glass on top?

@Joanna910: To light the bottom the local bride gave me the white floralytes. I’m debating on if we need a couple more.

@lolo7835: @pynkbunnie: She ordered the products online (I think you can get them from the source link under the picture). It’s made up of two glass pieces that are 16″x16″(for added support for the weight of the cake) and 12 glass vases that are 3″x3″.

I’ll double check on the site that she purchased the glass!

@Kristen: The glass vases/votives were purchased from save on crafts.com, I’m still hunting down the answer for the 16 in glass plates :)

@Kristen: Sorry didn’t see the cake size question! Our cake is going to be 3 round tiers, 6″, 9″, 12″ on a 14″ cardboard base.

Wow the supplies seem a lot simpler than fancy florist people decorators would let on!! :]

I absolutely love that so many of your posts start with you finding something you love, and end with you finding a way to make it happen! You’re going to have such an amazing wedding!

Thank you to Lindsay (the local bride)…here’s the online glass company that she ordered the 16 in plates from: Behrenberg Glass Company

Possible stupid question coming at ya:

Won’t it make the bottom of the cake hot and melty??

I should have said: I love it, I wanna do it, BUT won’t it make the cake hot and melty?

:-)

@Ms. MoxieMonkey: That’s a really good question! The floralytes really don’t give off any heat. The bride I purchased it from showed me pictures of her cake and there were no problems with any heat/melting for her.
