Ring a Ding Ding

September 28th, 2010 @ 2:18 pm by Ms. Sloth

When I first started thinking about wedding bands, I thought that I’d just get a plain old white gold band to go along with my vintage engagement ring, which, as a reminder, looks like this:

But then, I figured that I wanted something a bit more interesting. Unfortunately, after looking at approximately seventy-gazillion wedding bands online, I came to the realization that traditional wedding bands are just not for me. Don’t get me wrong; I have no problem if someone wants to rock a ring like this:

Or this:

They are very, very pretty. But they’re just not me. I wanted something much more nontraditional.

I started seeing some pretty rings with scroll designs and liked them more than plain or diamond bands…

That’s more on the right track, I thought. But they weren’t exactly what I was looking for. Plus, they were much more than we were looking to spend.

And then, after doing an extensive Etsy search for “scroll ring,” I became smitten with this ring:

And after a brief conversation with the seller, she agreed to make this in white gold for me!

So there you go. My handmade white gold wedding band, for a steal. It’s unique, beautiful, feminine, and nontraditional. I can’t wait to wear it.

Did you go the traditional route when choosing your wedding band? Or did you want to find something a bit more unique?

Yes, seven gazillion sounds right to me, too. I’m so glad you found your ring! I’m still looking.

Still looking. I don’t like wearing jewelry and honestly, I get kinda scared wearing expensive pieces on the subway. Your ring is beautiful and very unique!

I have a really unusual ring, too. It’s an octagon on the outside (no stones) and round on the inside with my husband’s fingerprint in it. THe whole fingerprint craze isn’t new, but it’s definitely an unusual shape! I have an octagon engagement ring with a cubed raw diamond set in a gold open cube. Love how different they are (and I think you made a great choice!)

What a beautiful and original choice! I also wanted something a little different. I ended up going with a band, but the stones are set in a unique way. See it here:

And one more thing that I will do differently (might also work for you!): I plan to wear my engagement ring on the inside, wedding band on the outside. I know tradition dictates that you wear the wedding ring ‘closer to your heart,” but it just looks better that way to me, it’s more comfortable, and on a practical level, it keeps the more expensive ring on the inside! LOL

I went very traditional, which is a surprise because I’m a handmade, vintage kinda gal! I love your choices, they are so unique and beautiful!

I love your choice and that you weren’t afraid to do something that broke away from a traditional look. I think it speaks to your personality (you know, that personality that I must be an expert at since reading your posts on here. . .sarcasm)

I too have a vintage ring, it was my grandmother’s wedding ring. She always wore a simple band with it…but my fiance is kind enough to buy a custom wedding band of my choice. It will have to be custom because the ring has a unique profile that won’t match up with any standard ring. I will likely just mirror some design element in the ring because I don’t want the wedding band to compete with how pretty the original ring is.

It’s funny, my engagement ring looks like a lot of wedding bands. It’s a lot like the first pic you posted, on the diamonds only go halfway around, not all the way.
P had bought it, then his mother gave him a ring that had been his granny’s. One of the two diamonds had been made into his stepdad’s wedding ring, and the other was for me!

P said I could do whatever I wanted with it, turn it in to an e-ring if I didn’t like the one he chose. I love the one he chose precisely because HE CHOSE it, so I’m not parting with my e-ring. And no way can I refuse granny’s stone, so my wedding ring with have one larger diamond.

“Backwards” to the traditional way, but perfect for us.

OMG! I posted the same ring! I love it too! While I’m not going to buy that one, it’s my inspiration to look for something in stores. Traditional bands are not for me, either :D
