Mrs. Guinea Pig's Picture
Mrs. Guinea Pig, Baltimore, MD Age and Occupation: 26, PhD student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Operations Director at a non-profit Engagement Date: December 25, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: The Chesapeake Bay Beach Club About Me: I'm a tomboy science nerd whose girly side has made a startling appearance thanks to wedding planning! I love to bake, knit and sew but I also ride a motorcycle (that Mr. Guinea Pig wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole). We live with our three crazy cats and love to read, travel, watch movies, and do home improvement projects together! My parents/family are Canadian but I'm definitely American, although I've lived in 5 different countries, 6 different states, and speak Russian fluently. Mr. GP and I met online (did I mention I'm a scientist?) and had a whirlwind romance - now we can't wait to get married & celebrate with all our friends and family in a blue and yellow waterfront affair!
About Mrs. Guinea Pig

After feeling so much incredible love, warmth and happiness during the toasts, Mr. Guinea Pig and I snuck out while everyone got their dinner so that we could take a few moments to ourselves and enjoy the beautiful sunset.

This series of photos is definitely one of my favorites from the wedding, but I’ll spare you all of them and let those two stand as representations. There was still plenty of wind (see Mr. GP’s jacket flapping in the wind), so we could only stand out there for about 5 minutes because of the sand that was getting thrown into our faces!

With a few moments outside to gather ourselves, we giddily returned to the reception and finished our dinners. As dinner wrapped up for everyone, we stepped onto the dance floor to show off our one dance lesson…which we had taken one week before the wedding. But don’t worry, we practiced! Twice. ;) Actually, it turned out very smoothly and we were both really pleased with the dance. We did the foxtrot to the song More, by Bobby Darin (from which the title of my recaps was taken).

We managed to make use of the whole dance floor, do a couple spiffy moves and spins while grinning the whole time and not stepping on any toes, and ended with a dip! Plus, people thought we’d taken way more lessons than we really had, so I count that a success.

We used the end of our first dance to invite everyone onto the dance floor, and suddenly it was jam packed!

Our awesome DJ, Evan of MyDeejay.com, moved smoothly into upbeat songs that were the same general feel as our first dance song—classic oldies that everyone loves and are great to dance to!

(This is probably my favorite ever picture of BM L. I love that her twin, E, is laughing hysterically at her!)

As the music progressed from ’couple dance’ music to just plain fun dance music, people started really having fun!

(I love Mr. GP’s aunts!)

And the night was still young at this point!

(hamming it up with the bridesmaids)

We absolutely loved going from our first dance into an open dance floor, because it gave us a chance to spin around and chat with everyone who was dancing. And we were really glad we’d taken those few minutes outside alone, because the rest of the night was a mad dash to talk to everyone while still managing to get in lots of smooth moves (ha! yeah right) on the dance floor.

Up next: Time for a sugar high!

I LOVE those sunset photos, and now I want to know how they were created. :) Was a spotlight put on you? From the grass nearby, that’s what I’m guessing. However they were done… simply incredible.

@HoneyAndT: Thanks! I knew as soon as I heard the song, I wanted it to be our first dance. Mr. GP took some convincing ;)
@marieta: Yes, there was a spotlight! The second shooter stood on the ceremony lawn above with a handheld super bright spotlight and shone the light on us while Amy took the photos down on the beach level with us. We had let her know before the wedding that we wanted sunset pictures, so she came well prepared and got some great photos!

As a local girl, I’m dying to get some advice on where to get good dance lessons in the area. Any help you can offer would be welcome!

Those sunset pictures are absoultely breathtaking, GP! And it looks like your first dance went off without a hitch! Props to you for taking dance lessons…Mr. FF and I were kind of sort of dance lesson dropouts. ;)

@Encore: We went to the Towson Dance Studio (it’s actually in Timonium now: http://www.towsondancestudio.com) , and highly recommend it! We took one private 1 hr lesson where we brought in our song, the instructor told us it was a quick foxtrot, and then he spent the next hour teaching us the basic steps and about 3 or 4 ‘extra’ moves that we could throw in as we felt like it. He was really patient, and very helpful (except I can’t remember his name!). We also looked into the Arthur Murray studios but didn’t like them.

Your dress looks gorgeous in those dancing photos. You can really see the detail.
