Mrs. Ostrich's Picture
Mrs. Ostrich, San Francisco/Hawaii Age and Occupation: 30, Fashion Buyer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 38, Copywriter Engagement Date: October 4, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Sweet ceremony by the sea and sunset celebration on the North Shore of Hawaii About Me: Born in the city of angels and residing in the city by the bay, I’m a fearless fashion buyer by day, a passionate blog author by night and a dreamy bride-to-be in between. I thank my lucky stars to live in such a stunning city that gives me gifts like organic honey lavender ice cream, movie nights in the park, tucked away beaches, legendary record stores, '80s dance parties, awesome sports teams, stellar flea markets, and vintage bookshops. Oh, and I love to dance! We always find every excuse to escape to the beach, and decided a little seaside wedding in Hawaii is our idea of bliss. Full of our favorite people, music, food and sparkly lights, this is one sunset celebration we will always remember.

Dream Catcher

Ah, to be a bride.

Zany? Always. Overwhelming? Sometimes. Super fun? Yes!

So the big day is seven-ish months away. And after many hours of creative brainstorming on our couch, Mr. Ostrich and I successfully tackled most of the big stuff. You know…the island. The date. The venues. The wedding party. The planner. The decor inspiration. The suit. The dress. (Yes, the dress! )

And my most favorite part…

The terrific team who captures the crazy day.

You know how most girls dream of their perfect wedding dress for years? Not me. I was dreaming of my perfect wedding photos.

And at long last, we found our guy.

He is awesome.

He said yes!

And I did my happy dance for a week.

Here are some of my favorite bits of his work—dreamy, cool, and always clever. I’m a big fan, and maybe you are too?

Did he really take a picture of an ostrich? How hilariously appropriate/a good omen. Looks like they’re going to be amazing!

We wanted a photojournalistic style. Very few posed shots. Our goal was to be able to see our wedding day in a pictorial. Our photographer fits us perfectly. He is also shoots for newspapers and magazines. I’m like you … pics were top of the list. Although, I do love my dress!! LOL

Photography was so major for us as well. My mother is an art photographer and we were looking for a great photographer to live up to what she does. Luckily my mother offered to do our photos, and thank goodness. Nothing in my eyes could live up to her shots.

Color me jealous! Your pics will be amaaaazing. Of course, I really love our photographer, too.
Before getting engaged I’d seen a few weddign pics of bridal parties that I thought were great, but otherwise hadn’t thought much about photography and assumed most were the same. Once I dove into wedding blogs I learned that there is a HUGE difference in styles and artistry among wedding photogs. I quickly discovered that we leaned more towards a photojournalistic style, and who could tell the story of our day through their photos since we can’t afford a videographer. When I found our photog I loved the style and artistry found in her portfolio, but just as much as that it was her self/client descriptions that got me…
“I am easy going, outdoorsy-girlie, eco-conscious & a dreamy realist. I love my family & love to laugh. I love things daring, spunky, beautiful, romantic and authentic. You are madly in love, serious about having fun. Crave unique images. Love things modern, retro, soft, intimate, & outrageous. You love to laugh. You are searching for a photographer who brings joy, calm, eyes on the back of her head, passion, originality, laughter, spunk.” LOVE HER.

Ohhh your pics are going to be phenomenal!!
I was looking for natural poses and good candids, vivid colors with some vintage wash mixed in, and I also watched my photogs in action at a friends wedding and loved how they operated.
