Mrs. Elephant's Picture
Mrs. Elephant, Dallas, TX Age and Occupation: 27, Financial Operations Analyst Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, IT Student/Store Manager Engagement Date: March 29, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: The Tribute Golf Club About Me: I'm a Philly native creating roots deep in the heart of Texas. I might be a little obsessed capturing those Kodak moments of anything and everything (mainly on vacations). I've become more of a gamer thanks to Mr. Elephant, who I met online and can't wait to spend the rest of my life with. We are planning a wedding based on our favorite colors, blue and green, with a travel theme for 150 of our closest friends and family. Hopefully our long (2-year) engagement won't kill me!

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

September 29th, 2010 @ 11:54 am by Mrs. Elephant

I’ve said it before, and I’ll probably say it again—this long engagement has allowed for many changes to be made.

I know that I have not shared our invites yet, but we are still making a couple of changes to them. Trust me—you’ll be the first to know when they are done! How about I make you a deal? I’ll share one piece with you today to hold you over until the big reveal. Deal? Great!

We decided to do RSVP postcards to save some money and ordered them from Vistaprint. Well, after getting our engagement pictures back, I found an excuse to order new RSVP cards!

Here are the previous RSVP postcards…

Nice, but a little boring

…and here are the new ones!

Now, you can’t tell me the new ones don’t look super cool! The front of the RSVP includes one of my favorite pictures from our engagement shoot and our address. The back indicates that there are two seats reserved for the guests (no trying to add on people!) and gives a little extra space for words of advice.

While I was at it (Vistaprint was having a decent sale: no upload fee, no color fee, free post cards), I ordered some thank you cards as well, using a picture from our engagement shoot. These will be for any gifts that we get before the wedding. The plan is to take pictures at the wedding, holding either a thank you sign or parasol, and use that for gifts received at the wedding and after.

Did you make changes during your engagement period after thinking you were done with a project? Did you use engagement pictures for any DIY projects?

Cute!! Much better in my opinion. I’m kind of in a tricky place now where we are about 10.5 months out so I don’t want to order much for fear of changing my mind later, but at the same time, I worry I’ll leave it all til the last minute if I don’t get SOME things taken care of!

Oh, sure … more than once, I’ve said that the best way to save money on a wedding is to have a short engagement! LOL

The biggest change I’ve made so far was the DIY centerpieces. I started out with round orange vases filled with flowers, and switched to square clear vases filled with sand a a pillar candle (because I realized we would need more light for our outdoor dinner reception after sunset). Fortunately, I got the first set of vases for $1 each, and I’ll save much more than by switching from flowers to candles.

Just got our engagement photos back, and used them to order custom stamps for the invitations. :)

These look great! I am also planning on sending postcards, but as STDs instead of RSVPs.

I’ve looked at vistaprint and am amazed by their pricing and quick shipping (I ordered address labels from them) but was a little weary of the quality of pictures.

Yours have changed my mind though- are you happy with the picture quality close up? From what I can see they look very crisp with good color.

@sherrybaby: I was very happy with the crisp color on the postcards and the thank you cards. I’m sure that the quality of the high resolution files I got from my photographer helped, but I was very satisfied with the printing quality!

Love the photo RSVP cards! They are great! And I really like your idea of printing how many seats they are allotted already on there!

Love the new cards! Question: did everyone get 2 seats or did you have variable numbers?

We’ve been trying to figure out how to specify the number of people invited, but we’ll have anywhere from 2 to 6 people. : O

@aggee: Yes, there will be 2 seats for each invite. We are only doing adults, and giving every single friend the option to bring a guest.

If you are doing more you could always leave that as a blank and then write in the amount for that particular invite like “We have reserved ___ seats in your honor”. Good Luck!

Those look awesome! Love the thank you cards too. We are going to use our engagement photos for STDs, table numbers and a guest book. I want to get as much usage out of those pictures as possible!
