“Leaf” Your Print and Sign

September 29th, 2010 @ 1:50 pm by Mrs. Plaid

I knew from the moment I saw the thumb print/guestbook tree trend, I was going to have to include it in our wedding day!

I’ve always wondered what people do with their guestbooks after the wedding. I didn’t want a book with people’s signatures just hanging around collecting dust. I love the idea that I can take our guestbook and display it proudly in our house after the wedding.

These were some of the first examples of this that I found:

Leaf Your Print and Sign : wedding austin guestbook Guest B Source

Leaf Your Print and Sign : wedding austin guestbook Tree2 T From the fabulous Mrs. Poodle

How can you not love this? And what a perfect opportunity to get Mr. P involved in the wedding planning again!

I asked him to draw a tree with just branches. Check out what he came up with:

Leaf Your Print and Sign : wedding austin guestbook Dscn042

I was blown away by how quickly he drew this and how awesome it looks. He started with pencil and traced over it in Sharpie. I think it took him only an hour and a half. Thank god he’s artistic because I am not. At least not with a pencil and paper.

I am, however, proficient with fonts and lettering. Once he finished the tree I added the lettering underneath. I chose Centurion Ho for the font.

Are you going with a traditional guestbook, or doing something a bit different like Miss Starfish’s postcards, or a bench ala Mrs. Sand Dollar?

This works best if you use your fingers and not your thumbs. The thumbs take up a lot of room and I guess would be OK for a smaller wedding. But if you have more than 75 people doing it, think about having them use their fingers.

I’ve thought about it, because it is pretty, and very cool-looking to hang up later. But…. does everyone then have green fingers for the rest of the evening? What if someone does that, then hugs me, and gets green on the dress?!

We did this at our wedding with a slight twist - we had a small tree for those who were there for the ketubah signing (done before our ceremony) which was pretty much just our immediate families and wedding party and then at the wedding we laid out a photo mat for our other guests to sign. Now we have our lovely tree with framed by everyone’s well wishes and we love it!

Your tree looks great, I wish we had the talent to pull that off but we ordered the first one your featured…

Love it!
We did a fingerprint tree at our rehearsal dinner. It is now framed and hanging in the house and we get a lot of compliments on it.

That is a new option, never seen it before!

I also, didn’t like the idea of a guestbook sitting around collecting dust. My fiance and I decided to do something I’d seen a good friend of mine do . . . we got a plain white matte, and a beautiful frame (I think 11×14″) and one of our engagement pictures (don’t have wedding pics, yet!). We will have our guests sign with archival pen on the matte, around the photo of our choice, and if they want of course put a comment for us and then, we will put it in frame to display in our home!

We’re excited!! :)

We did a variation of this as well. We did a sunflower, with guests signing a petal and placing it all together around the center of the flower. Turned out beautiful!
We used Absinthe Custom Print on Etsy, and she was AMAZING!

@rycrafty: I was wondering the same thing about guests walking around with ink on their fingers!

@vancountry: just looked up absinthe custom print on etsy…wow! I’m thinking of doing the “tree guest book”…thanks for the info!!

@rycrafty: I’ve got wet wipes for people to wipe their fingers off with. I’ve tested them with the ink and they work. I wouldn’t want green on my dress either. Eek!

Thanks y’all!
