When I was in college, I was famous for taking any shortcut within reason to finish my work. My friend and future bridesmaid, Cakes, would painstakingly hand stitch a five-yard hem while I was dancing around her with my machine-hemmed garment, asking her when we could leave to go get some wine.
When I started DIYing the boutonnieres, I just glued them together and then called it a day. But I started having visions of them falling apart on the big day, and that is no bueno. When I realized that I should sew these puppies up instead, I told myself that I needed to “cakes” them. So from here on out, when I say I need to “cakes” something, you should know it is going to be done real proper. I’m currently cakesin’ my invitations. I totally screwed up the invites, Round One.
Cakes, cakesin’ the cake
aka lucky in love!
Hive, I am on the receiving end of a (very!!) happy accident. And you’re the only people in my life, besides my mother, who can truly understand how I feel. Again, I have to link back to this old post, in which I let myself pine over beautiful chiavari chairs in long rows down our guest tables, if only for a sentence or two. Siiiiiiigh… chiavaaari… One wedding splurge that I decided I simply could not allow. I stayed sensible, I compromised with white, folding, included-in the-price, padded chairs.
These chairs:

They’ll do, of course. They are lovely little basic chairs. I stopped thinking about my choices and my upgrade options, and I stifled my tinge of regret and slight jealousy whenever I would see a wedding with these beauts:

Hey everyone…well, really I should start off by saying g’day!
I’m Miss Jaguar and having been reading, okay, stalking the hive for such a long time, I still can’t believe I’m lucky enough to be blogging here today. This calls for a celebration, in the form of awkward dancing while grinning in front of famous landmarks!

Yes, that’s me. No, I can’t dance. Kindly pretend I’m fabulous.
I had always intended to try my luck at becoming a bee. Every time I followed a Miss to a Mrs, I was itching at the chance to jump on board. And when the new generation of Safari Animals came out? I was smitten. There was only one problem…our wedding date was too far away. I was too early, by about a month. So what was a girl to do?
At Jenny Yoo I was shocked at how opposite my appointment could be with the same exact elements: mainly a solo bride shopping for her dress. Walking into the crisp, clean Jenny Yoo studio in the Fashion District of New York City, the clerk immediately greeted me with a smile and made me feel at home. The clerk was super sweet and began to ask me about my wedding and if there were any dresses I was specifically interested in seeing. I thought to myself that those were the words I was waiting for, and I quickly rustled up a list of contenders that I wrote down while at home.
I mentioned them to the clerk, and ended up with about dozen requested dresses. Unfortunately, not everything from the new 2010 collection was in stock yet—like Mackenzie, my first choice (darn!!). So she left me to browse on my own while she checked which they did have. Moving around the store I relished the calm, and supported environment. It was nothing like the small boutique I visited earlier: no snarky comments, no pretentious comments that certain dresses weren’t me (phew!!).

“Embrace the season with wedding favors that are perfectly suited for spring! Adorable AND affordable.”
While Mr. Cola and I were doing our first look and taking pictures around the park, my family and our wedding party were headed to our venue.
Our wedding seriously would not have happened if it hadn’t been for all the effort on the part of my mom, my aunt, our wedding party, our DOC and her assistants. I still really have no clue how they managed to get everything set up so beautifully in such a short amount of time, but they did, and we love them all for it!
Here is just a partial representation of everything they set up in about an hour and a half. I love that we have these pictures—you can literally see our wedding coming together!
The flowers on the arbor (the arrangements in floral foam cages on either side had to be assembled on site and then attached with the branches to the arbor with zip ties)
beccaod took her bridal party for a spin!

A couple months ago, a friend of ours, Miss A, got engaged to a military man, Mr. S. They decided they were going to plan their wedding in just four short weeks so they could be married on the Fourth of July. Now you have to know Miss A to understand that she is the kind of woman who could pull off an amazing wedding in just a month. One of the things she ran into on a short timeline, of course, was getting a photographer. Luckily, Sister-In-Law Meerkat is currently dual majoring in photography and digital media and was happy to be Miss A’s photographer.
Now while all this was happening, Mr. Meerkat decided it was the perfect time to give me my wedding present. A brand spankin’ new Nikon digital SLR camera just like Sister-In-Law Meerkat has!!! (By the way, it was love at the first shutter snap.)
To go along with our boarding-pass escort cards, our tables will be named (instead of numbered) after places that we have traveled to together.
Back in the day, I mentioned my first mock-ups and the little changes I made to (hopefully) not make it look like a second grade school project. With some free time the other night, I decided to go ahead and finish the project.
I used the same blue and green card stock that we’re using for all other paper products and made use of the linen paper I ordered by mistake. I printed out the names of the destinations and glued them to green and blue mats, making use of scrap paper from other projects.
As promised, here are some of the pictures of our labor of love for the baby we love…taken by the best auntie and photographer in the world!
Veraya used film and I am so in love with how they all turned out. We are so lucky to be surrounded by such talented and creative friends. Thank you so very much!
My vision was to have a vintage sweets theme. So, we had to have a sweets buffet.
I tried to take on as many DIY projects as I could to help minimize the costs and to lower Mr Jelly Beans’ blood pressure. Overall, taking into account all my prep work, I was one happy Jelly.
We had the best time with baby Jelly and our closest family & friends. In the end, that’s all that really matters…

Enjoy today’s eye candy brought to you by the Jelly Bean family…

The big day is less than seven months away.
Eek!
The good news is, I’ve been slooowly gathering the thoughtful bits and pieces required to put together our very DIY little beach wedding.

This isn’t necessarily a wedding-related purchase, but whatevuh. I am so, so excited about this that I had to share.
I came across Etsy seller NanLawson a few weeks ago and commissioned a custom portrait of Mr. S and me. Maybe I’d use it for save the dates. Maybe I’d just hang it in our home somewhere. Who knows? Her portfolio was so quirky and cute and her prices so reasonable that I couldn’t resist.
Anyhoodle, I sent her some photos of us and told her the type of clothes we usually wear. After about ten days or so, she sent me our proof. And it is fabulous, you guys. Freaking aMAZing.

This past weekend was…interesting, to say the least.
Mr. Cardigan and I took a trip to Austin for a friend’s wedding shower. I won’t get into all of the craziness that happened, but the big event of the weekend was that Ranger, our dog, was staying for a few hours at Mr. Cardy’s mom’s house, and he managed to get loose. It took two hours of running through the woods, calling his name, and just waiting before we finally got him back (he came only when he saw me waiting for him at the house. What a momma’s boy!). It was a stressful weekend, and I’d really rather not ever have to think about it again.
But, one good thing did come of it! We had a meeting with our DOC, and it went fabulously. We met her at our venue so we could discuss decor and details that we hadn’t talked about yet, and she really knows what she’s talking about. She brought up several things that I had never even thought of, and she gave me many new things to add to my to-do list (lovely!).
The big thing that I’ve been thinking about since the meeting is our altar. If you’ll remember, this is the room we’re getting married in:

Our newest bee comes to us from London, and will be wed in Australia! Join me in giving a warm welcome to our newest bee, Miss Jaguar!

Miss Jaguar, London/Sydney
Age & Occupation: 26, Primary School Teacher
Fiance’s Age & Occupation: 28, IT Consultant
Engagement Date: August 8, 2009
Wedding Date: June 2011
Venue: Curzon Hall
About Me: I’m an Australian girl who is a self-proclaimed nerd, loves all things stationery and would be lost without books, music and the internet. Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! We currently live in London, UK with our adorable cat, who thinks he’s a person. We’re a couple who likes to multi-task: we’re currently planning a wedding abroad, a permanent move to Sydney, and preparing to build our own home all at the same time. Travelling makes me giddy…as does Mr. Jaguar, of course!
While detail shots were being taken, I resumed position for the tail end of getting my hair done. I opted for clip-in extensions rather than sewn in ones, because with my fine hair we were afraid that it would destroy hair post-extensions. I admit, it was a little weird having an unknown Russian’s hair mixed in with mine, but I quickly got over that when I realized how long and awesome it looked. (Before I totally destroyed it, that is. Thanks, June weather in Georgia. Best wishes.) June also thought it would be a prime time to get a bit of an adult beverage into my system. (I bought the cups at Swoozies about 100 years ago. I’m pretty sure they still exist.)

Now that we have our RSVPs in, it’s time to figure out the final layout for tables and submit our final head count and rental requests. This is undeniably the most daunting wedding task. We are using a combination of long and square tables to give a modern, clean-line balance to our mixed china look which has its benefits and its drawbacks. Behold, my high-tech design tools to figure out the best layout:
Good ole’ Post-It notes! (Please excuse the dirty coffee table). The table in the top right corner (aka the back corner near the speakers) is a little short and stumpy so I wanted to make sure it would look okay “in person” versus on a computer screen.
Square tables can be difficult to seat, because if you only have seven guests at one table, there is an obvious single person. And if you have a crew with 9 people who should Ideally sit together, you can’t just squeeze one more in like you can at a round table. Fortunately, we only had one situation with a straggler, and I worked it out by breaking up the back stumpy table (my sister and her bests. They’ll be okay).
