Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VAAge and Occupation: 25, Writer/EditorFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk ManagerEngagement Date: October 3, 2009Wedding Date: April 2011Venue: Oxon Hill ManorAbout Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.
We’re jumping on the increasingly popular, Southern-inspired homemade jars of jam bandwagon! Can I get a Yeeeeeehaw? Just kidding!
This was a really easy decision for us. We didn’t spend a lot of time debating it like we did with other details. We just saw it, liked it, and said, done! It happened so easily and I couldn’t argue with a quick decision ’cause we hardly come by those!
One night when I was flipping through real weddings on one of my favorite wedding blogs, a certain something caught Mr. B’s attention (he was watching television). He must have seen it out of the corner of his eye, because I had no idea he was paying any attention, but he leaned over and said, “Oh that’s nice!”
It was a cutesy backyard, woodsy type of wedding and I guess because he had never heard or seen the jars of jam favors before, he jumped all over the idea. Read more…
Mrs. Hippo, New York City/Dallas, TXAge and Occupation: 34, Event Planner for a Non-Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance ITEngagement Date: August 8, 2009Wedding Date: March 2011Venue: Samuel Lynne Galleries and Marc EventsAbout Me: I’m a thirty-something bride living in New York City and planning a modern-ish wedding in Dallas, Texas. I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).
In addition to a dress look for our engagement pictures (thanks for the input, hive!), I want to have a more casual look with jeans. I started brainstorming ways we could make our casual look unique and thought accessories were the way to go. More specifically, hats!
Mrs. Lioness, AtlantaAge and Occupation: 25, Physical TherapistFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, AttorneyEngagement Date: August 29, 2009Wedding Date: April 2011Venue: Anthony’s Fine DiningAbout Me: I’m a Southern girl with New England roots. I say "wicked" and "y’all" in the same sentence and I like to drink sweet tea with my lobster. Mr. Lion and I are both former Floridians now living in Atlanta, which fortunately is still SEC country...Go Gators! We both love baseball, coffee, traveling, cooking, and playing Words with Friends with each other on our iPhones all day long. I’m very passionate about the things and the people I love, and I tend to plan things with all of my heart...our wedding, of course, is no different! Oh, and also Mr. Lion is a first generation American of Cuban descent. I may look more like Lucy than Ricky, but I’m doing my best to incorporate some Latin elements into our vintage-garden-Southern wedding!
The length of an engagement is a very interesting concept to me. It varies so much by couple, and it’s such an individual choice. We talked about our wedding date (well, roughly…more like our wedding season) before we even got engaged. Once I had Spring of 2011 stuck in my head, it didn’t matter when we got engaged. I have a friend who had similar thoughts, though her thinking landed her with a very different engagement length. She and her now-fiance planned to get married in August of 2010. They made this decision well before August, but when the proposal didn’t come until April, they ended up with only a 4-month engagement.
Now, I would not have been able to handle a 4-month engagement. She, on the other hand, can’t imagine having an engagement as long as ours. Having a long engagement has had several advantages for us. First of all, we’re on a pretty tight budget. The fact that we’ve had plenty of time to shop around and find the best deals has definitely been helpful. Also, it’s allowed us to focus more on everything else that’s going on in our lives right now (not much really, just graduating, taking the bar/boards, and starting our careers). We still have plenty of time for wedding planning, without forcing everything else to be put on the back burner. Read more…

I'm a lover of history, all seasons, sewing and Incubus. I design costumes on the side for my old high school's theatre department, which is where I met my sexy man. Our motto for our Big Fat Lebanese/Portuguese/Irish near-300 person wedding is "the more the merrier"! We are marrying in a Catholic ceremony and are hammering out the details of our Victorian-inspired reception.
The benefit of having been together for 8 years is that we have a ton of pictures. We even have—wait for it—engaged to be engaged pictures! My Aunt Cindy takes amazing pictures of people in natural landscapes. When everyone in my high school class was getting their gelled backgrounds ready for their senior pictures, Zeb and I headed on over to Aunt Cindy’s log cabin for a senior picture/couple photography session. Who cares? We want pictures! Okay! Okay! Sheesh! Here it goes…
Mrs. Meerkat, Kalamazoo, MI/Riviera MayaAge and Occupation: 30, Application EngineerFiance's Age and Occupation: 23, IT ConsultantEngagement Date: July 26, 2008Wedding Date: December 2010Venue: Al Cielo / La LagunaAbout Me: I’m a tech-savvy tomboy with an affinity for hot tea and good sushi. Us Meerkats are just a couple fun lovin’ geeks from Michigan. We love anything having to do with movies, books, video games or technology and we hold a special place in our hearts for our two very spoiled shih-tzus, Wicket and Bravo. We also LOVE to travel. We love it so much it only took us 12 hours after we got engaged to decide to have a destination wedding. We are working our little Meerkat tails off planning a rustic-chic, travel themed destination wedding in the Riviera Maya with a semi-formal, vintage-turned-modern, outdoor at home reception back here in Michigan.
Our engagement began with a rendezvous. Not between Mr. Meerkat and I but between Mr. Meerkat and MOH Meerkat. Now, wait before you start thinking this is a Days of Our Lives episode; let me explain.
It started one day in June while I was at lunch with the guys I work with. I had been telling them that Mr. Meerkat was planning a surprise weekend away and how excited I was. During lunch, Mr. Meerkat called. As we were talking I realized he was driving while he should have been at work. So, I asked him the obvious question: where was he going? He was honest and told me that he had taken the day off and was meeting MOH Meerkat in the town where I work (one hour from where we live) for lunch and shopping (he didn’t bother to tell me that their shopping was actually going to happen two more hours north). As you can guess, I was kind of hurt. My boyfriend and best friend were getting together and didn’t invite me.
When I got off the phone ,my co-workers could see I was kind of bummed and asked what was wrong. Read more…

In the past year I've lived in Baltimore, MD, Tucson, AZ, Miami, FL and Lancaster, England. In my not so spare time I enjoy planning trips with Mr. D' Orsay, visiting friends and family and crafting like a mo-fo. I also enjoy modern dance classes, rugby and soccer but have been banned by my mother, MOHs, and Mr. D' Orsay from playing till after the wedding. I have an unnatural addiction to cheese and shoes, but love Mr. D' Orsay more than either and can't wait to become Mrs. D' Orsay!

I'm planning a half-destination wedding on the beautiful island of Oahu - imagine a plethora of movies, art and games; savory Hawaiian food; blended Chinese and Japanese cultural details; lush, fragrant tropical flowers and all the air conditioning a NorCal native could want! And once I marry the love of my life, we'll come back to the 'mainland' to party it up all over again in my hometown of Salinas, the salad-bowl capital of the world!
As we left Tokyo on the shinkansen that Saturday morning, we traveled back in time to a more traditional, more historical Japan: Kyoto.
I cannot say enough about how awesome the Capsule Ryokan we stayed at was. The owner greeted us at the door (in very good English, I might add), and showed us how our room worked. Yes, the room required explanation. It even came with a binder of instructions! Every Sew’s dream room! Read more…

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography StudentEngagement Date: February 14, 2010Wedding Date: January 2011Venue: Gardens of the WorldAbout Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.
I have showed you the pearl studs Mr E gave me for my second set of ear piercings, and I showed you my hair pin in my hair and makeup trial post yesterday.
So, how about even more jewellery porn, people? When it comes to jewellery, I’m definitely a silver girl. I think the only gold things I own are my engagement and promise rings. But you can usually predict I will have something silver in my ears. Last year for Christmas my parents gave me this gorgeous pair of Balinese silver earrings.
(I just had to take the photo with them dangling from my fav mug, ’cause I’m cool like that.)
Mrs. Elephant, Dallas, TXAge and Occupation: 27, Financial Operations AnalystFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, IT Student/Store ManagerEngagement Date: March 29, 2009Wedding Date: April 2011Venue: The Tribute Golf ClubAbout Me: I'm a Philly native creating roots deep in the heart of Texas. I might be a little obsessed capturing those Kodak moments of anything and everything (mainly on vacations). I've become more of a gamer thanks to Mr. Elephant, who I met online and can't wait to spend the rest of my life with. We are planning a wedding based on our favorite colors, blue and green, with a travel theme for 150 of our closest friends and family. Hopefully our long (2-year) engagement won't kill me!
When it comes to the lovely ladies that will be standing up for me on my big day, the only thing I knew I wanted in their dresses was that the girls felt beautiful. I tried to narrow it down into brands/designers and a length and then they could pick the dress that best fits their body type. Since I had some extra time on my hands, I made a PowerPoint with the pictures of the different dresses and the prices I could find online.
The first set of dresses are J Crew, Silk Chiffon in Vintage Blue. I think these can be wore again easily, but may not be dressy enough for the wedding.

I love to bake, knit and sew but I also ride a motorcycle (that Mr. Guinea Pig wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole). We live with our three crazy cats and love to read, travel, watch movies, and do home improvement projects together! My parents/family are Canadian but I'm definitely American, although I've lived in 5 different countries, 6 different states, and speak Russian fluently. Mr. GP and I met online (did I mention I'm a scientist?) and had a whirlwind romance - now we can't wait to get married & celebrate with all our friends and family in a blue and yellow waterfront affair!
When I look through the photos from after the ceremony, Mr. Guinea Pig and I have huge smiles on our faces in all of them. I love it, and I think it speaks to just how happy we were right then. In our post-ceremony high after walking down the aisle as Mr. and Mrs., we hugged our beaming and/or crying parents:

Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: Ladder 15 RestaurantAbout Me: I am originally from the Midwest, but I love being an East Coast transplant! Mr. Socks and I are foodies and winos to the core---give us a hunk of cheese, some charcuterie and a glass of wine and we could die happy. We have two mischievous Wire Fox Terriers with completely opposite personalities but with a shared love of uprooting anything in our garden. Our backyard garden includes everything from tomatoes and peppers to a fig tree, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries! I love cooking, indie music, and spending time in our wedding city of choice---Philly!
Before I launch into this post, I just want to say…HOLY MOLY WE’RE ONE MONTH AWAY TODAY!! ONE MONTH!
Anyway, last night I finally had Mr. Socks try on his whole wedding ensemble!! In case you don’t remember, we put his suit choice to a vote, and the Hugo Boss was the obvious winner, so that’s what we went with!

My mister and I are planning a vibrant summer soiree celebrating our passions – including food and Philly – and when we make it official, we’ll have been together for eight years! Being super competitive is in my nature, and talking excessively is in my genes. I’ve got a terrible sense of direction, but can always easily find my way into Mr. Bruschetta’s arms.
The recaps are coming, I promise! Still have some pre-wedding (or, like this one, post-wedding) posts I want to share with the hive, though. (Feel free to help sway me in the comments by letting me know if you prefer recaps interspersed with background posts, or uninterrupted recaps!)

Okay, here’s the background: Since closing on our “First & Forever” home at the end of July, my mind drifts easily to house-related projects. As we were preparing for settlement, Sister and BIL Bruschetta—who are expecting in mid-November—began preparing their first place for sale. And while Sister and BIL Bruschetta started searching for their new home, Mama Bru and I mailed the baby shower invitations—which included a small blurb encouraging guests to wrap their presents to reflect their “gender guess.”
New home, with potential rooms needing painting (especially the nursery!), plus new baby, with an upcoming pink-and-blue-themed shower to celebrate? The super cute DIY bows Jessica created over on How About Orange popped into my head, with one home-improvement-themed stand-in for the magazine pages: paint swatches.

A few days ago, I shared that Mr. B and I wanted to make our invitations and provided some examples of invitations we found inspiring when we were planning a fall wedding. Obviously, choosing to get married in a different season changes a thing or two, including the design and colors of the invitations, so that’s why I have twice as much inspiration as the next bride.
That, and I also have this theory that, kind of like falling in love with her wedding gown, a bride has to have a connection to her invitations. A few people I know (some that aren’t even engaged yet) know exactly what kind of invitations they want, but something like that would never happen to me. I mull over decisions. I’m very indecisive. I fall in love with something, quickly fall out of love, and then fall in love with something else. Nevertheless, I think I’ll connect with the invitations. Is that crazy? To think paper will speak to me? Haha! I guess so.
My indecisiveness is pretty tiring for Mr. B because he never waivers when it comes to figuring out what he wants. He just knows it when he sees it, but it’s not that simple for me. That’s another reason I have so much inspiration.
So although it may not seem like it with our jumping from fall to spring motifs and DIY to designer, we are getting closer each day to finding and crafting our perfect invitation. For instance, I know that I want romantic. I want our invitations to be timeless and have some fancy script.
I also like soft colors, and I wouldn’t mind a picture of flowers as a part of the design, or even a butterfly. All of which would be fitting for our “garden theme.” Of course, the color green has to be in there somewhere, and I want a package deal, too. We don’t want our guests sorting through unorganized pieces. We want an open-and-close doohickey, where the guests receive a pocket with all of the various pieces organized nice and neat.
Here’s the invitation I liked way before we got engaged. I’m not crazy about it now. It’s just too modern. I like the flowers, and we will most definitely have daisies at our wedding, but the connection just isn’t there anymore.

I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.
OMG! I’m back!! I waited for what felt like an eternity for my pro pics to come in, and they’re still not totally here (proofs, no CD), but I’m tired of waiting and SO ready to share them with you. I bet you guys thought I wasn’t going to do my recaps, didn’t you? That’s okay. It has been nearly 5 months since we said I do, even though it feels like it just happened.
Anyhoo, where should we begin? With us getting ready, perhaps? So, our getting ready process was basically a day-Long affair, and I’m not kidding. The hair and makeup girl, Amy, showed up at 9:30 to start the process for each of us. But it was all worth it; she did such a great job. Perhaps you’d like to see?

When my mother returned to work, 11-week-old me was walked next door to my Gramma Rosie’s house. Gramma was the kind of grandma people dream about having. I was her little angel, and she was my big angel. We’d start every morning with some scrambled eggs. I’d nap while she watched Matlock and Murder She Wrote, and she’d nap while I watched Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie. She supported her family by working in the Fall River Sewing Mills, and she is the one who taught me how to hand stitch. The tooth fairy would visit my house, Gram’s house, and Aunt Millie’s house. Hey, I may be spoiled, but I’m not bratty!
Unfortunately, Gramma passed away when I was 11. The entire family was away at a wedding, but Aunt Millie, her husband Lance, and I stayed behind because they knew she was failing. Kids weren’t invited to this wedding, and I will forever be thankful for that. It was a tough weekend to say the least, but after she died, Aunt Millie assumed the role of my grandmother. My aunt and grandmother were the kindest, give-you-the-shirt-off-their-back, buy-you-an-ice-cream-with-the-last-dollar-they-had people, and they were both very talented seamstresses. I strive to be the kind of aunt to my nephews that my Aunt Millie was to me.
My dream was to pursue law school, up until one fateful summer day when I was 16. I got up from my chair in a daze, grabbed a pen and piece of lined paper, and sketched out a dress design. It was an out of body experience. Want to see? Don’t judge me; my drawing skills were zilch at this time.
