Mrs. Sand Dollar, HoustonAge and Occupation: 24, Graphic DesignerFiance's Age and Occupation: 22, Electrical TechnicianEngagement Date: January 8, 2010Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: MacLean ParkAbout Me: I'm a domestic diva down to the core. I heart cooking, sewing, baking, decorating and making sure we have a hand-crafted home. The best part about the wedding is I get to incorporate it all! I make sure I put my art degree to good use by screen printing, craft knife cutting, and a whole lotta graphic design. We're having a big-time party on a small-time budget, and I promise to show you a boot-scootin', barbecue-eatin', finger-lickin' good time! Mr. Sand Dollar and I spend most of our time on DIY projects or traipsing around the outdoors with our two pooches Rory and Juno. I'm looking forward to sharing our journey with all of you!
Let me start off by blaring, this is NOT safe for work! Repeat, please do not view these at your cubicle, unless you are some sort of lingerie executive—then I suppose it would be business as usual.
Let me start off by saying that Suzy Min was fantastic. I went over to her house to take most of the pictures in her studio, and they turned out amazing. She had a ton of backdrops to choose from, and they were all perfect for each outfit I had on. She really took the time to help me pose, and never made me feel awkward or out of place. I’m shocked to say it, but damn! I look good! And trust me, it was all her. Well, and the week of going without Cokes and pasta, which give me that horrible belly bump. I’m currently chowing down on shrimp penne, a giant Coke, and brownie batter. Trust me though, these pictures were worth the fast. Read more…
Ms. Sloth, PhiladelphiaAge and Occupation: 35, Account Manager and Fashion BloggerFiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Design AdminEngagement Date: December 25, 2009Wedding Date: May 2011Venue: Bartram's GardenAbout Me: I'm an internet junkie and music snob with a good eye for a bargain. I couldn't live without thrift store shopping, cheeseburgers, sushi, Coke Zero, websites devoted to silly photos of baby animals, Photoshop, and Mr. Sloth. Speaking of which, he and I are a pair of goofball homebody nerds who love our beagle (the most ridiculously adorable dog EVER) to an embarrassing degree. We're planning a low-key and intimate yet festive and quirky outdoor wedding with DIY details and deeply personal touches, and it's all taking place in the city where we fell in love and call home: Philadelphia.
Mr. S and I are one of those couples who are totally obsessed with their dog. We talk about him all the time, make up songs about him, talk to him like he’s a person, and all of that other borderline-creepy nonsense.
Mrs. Elephant, Dallas, TXAge and Occupation: 27, Financial Operations AnalystFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, IT Student/Store ManagerEngagement Date: March 29, 2009Wedding Date: April 2011Venue: The Tribute Golf ClubAbout Me: I'm a Philly native creating roots deep in the heart of Texas. I might be a little obsessed capturing those Kodak moments of anything and everything (mainly on vacations). I've become more of a gamer thanks to Mr. Elephant, who I met online and can't wait to spend the rest of my life with. We are planning a wedding based on our favorite colors, blue and green, with a travel theme for 150 of our closest friends and family. Hopefully our long (2-year) engagement won't kill me!
Yep, that’s right…another dress post. This one will be quick, mostly because there were not too many dresses for me to try on at this bridal outlet. The dresses are either Mori Lee or DaVinci, and this shop gives a 10% discount off the suggested retail price.
Dress #1: This dress was OK, but I realized that I really don’t like lace applique on wedding dresses. I’m sure the real dress wouldn’t have some coming off like this one did, but I just wasn’t too crazy about it.
Mrs. Lioness, AtlantaAge and Occupation: 25, Physical TherapistFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, AttorneyEngagement Date: August 29, 2009Wedding Date: April 2011Venue: Anthony’s Fine DiningAbout Me: I’m a Southern girl with New England roots. I say "wicked" and "y’all" in the same sentence and I like to drink sweet tea with my lobster. Mr. Lion and I are both former Floridians now living in Atlanta, which fortunately is still SEC country...Go Gators! We both love baseball, coffee, traveling, cooking, and playing Words with Friends with each other on our iPhones all day long. I’m very passionate about the things and the people I love, and I tend to plan things with all of my heart...our wedding, of course, is no different! Oh, and also Mr. Lion is a first generation American of Cuban descent. I may look more like Lucy than Ricky, but I’m doing my best to incorporate some Latin elements into our vintage-garden-Southern wedding!
You know? You plan and you plan and you think you cover everything. But then something comes up and requires a budget makeover. You see, I was convinced that we didn’t need a videographer. I’m more into still photos, and we had hired an amazing photographer (more on that later). I changed my mind when I saw this:

Us Meerkats are just a couple fun lovin’ geeks from Michigan. We love anything having to do with movies, books, video games or technology and we hold a special place in our hearts for our two very spoiled shih-tzus, Wicket and Bravo. We also LOVE to travel. We love it so much it only took us 12 hours after we got engaged to decide to have a destination wedding. We are working our little Meerkat tails off planning a rustic-chic, travel themed destination wedding in the Riviera Maya with a semi-formal, vintage-turned-modern, outdoor at home reception back here in Michigan.

My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).
…finals week in college. As we near the end of our wedding planning chaos, I can’t help but think of how much my mind and body feels like it’s gone through a multi-week long journey of studying and prepping for that dreaded week of finals.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve spent many late nights working on DIY projects and putting together lists (among countless other things) to prepare for the big day. Read more…
Mrs. Cardigan, AustinAge and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems AnalystEngagement Date: August 16, 2009Wedding Date: January 2011Venue: Vintage VillasAbout Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
Mr. Cardigan and I recently took what I consider to be an extremely big step in our relationship, one that was both extremely exciting, and a little terrifying.
I added him as a joint holder to my bank account.
That’s right, he has his own debit card, his own password, and full access to all of my funds…which are now our funds. He is also depositing all of his checks from work into my—I mean, our—account.
Mr. Cardy and I have talked many many times about this decision, and we have decided that when we get married (well really, starting now) we will be combining our finances. I know everyone does this a different way, but we’ve decided that we want to go all in and completely combine our money. Eventually, we’ll probably both have side accounts for personal spending (so I don’t have to feel guilty for spending “our” money on $200 shoes, and he doesn’t have to feel bad for buying 5 new video games in one week. Not that we do that now, but it would be nice to be able to without feeling bad, right?) but for now, what’s mine is his and vice versa. Read more…
Mrs. Knitting, TorontoAge and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD CandidateEngagement Date: October 2009Wedding Date: December 2010Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club
About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.
I was inspired by Miss Cardigan’s postslast week about how she and Mr. Cardy were personalizing their ceremony and I wanted to share some of the ways we’ll be doing this.
One of the ways we’ll be personalizing our ceremony is by choosing music that is uniquely us. Keeping with our goal of making our wedding as family-centered as possible, we asked one of my lovely aunts to play the piano for the ceremony. Here’s what she’ll be playing.
Prelude:
After guests get themselves some apple cider or hot chocolate they’ll make their way upstairs to the lovely candlelit room where the ceremony will be held. My aunt will be playing a selection of Christmas carols at this point. I’ve given her free rein on those, so we’ll see what she comes up with.
Processional:
I wrote about this here, but my lovely ladies and myself will be entering to Here, There, and Everywhere by the Beatles. Read more…

I could probably eat chips and queso every day but instead I eat popcorn. I use the word “awesome” way too much but I just can’t seem to stop myself. I am addicted to all things DIY and am planning what I call a Texas-Chic wedding. I love snuggling with my two adorable dogs and of course, my adorable fiance. I can’t wait 'til I can call him my husband some day! October 2010, here we come!
I’m failure. There, I said it. I made all these promises to myself after I got engaged—promises to better myself and I’ve failed.
I promised myself that I would give up Dr Pepper. I’m kind of a Dr Pepper-aholic. I think I’m addicted. Seriously. I’ve tried to give it up. I think I got as far as a week without DP. I suck, I know. I’ve definitely cut back, but I just don’t see how I could ever give it up completely. I know it’s not great for me, my body or my teeth. Maybe someday…
I also promised myself that I’d lose weight for our wedding. Read more…
Mrs. Hippo, New York City/Dallas, TXAge and Occupation: 34, Event Planner for a Non-Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance ITEngagement Date: August 8, 2009Wedding Date: March 2011Venue: Samuel Lynne Galleries and Marc EventsAbout Me: I’m a thirty-something bride living in New York City and planning a modern-ish wedding in Dallas, Texas. I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).
One of the many things King Hippo and I have on our list of things to do when we are in Dallas next month is taking our engagement photos. I would have loved to have taken them sooner in the process, but we just selected our photographers during the last trip, and this is the first time we’ve been back since then (just another hassle of being an LDB).
I’m pretty excited to have professional pictures taken together, and if we get even a few that look like these, I will be ecstatic.

Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: Ladder 15 RestaurantAbout Me: I am originally from the Midwest, but I love being an East Coast transplant! Mr. Socks and I are foodies and winos to the core---give us a hunk of cheese, some charcuterie and a glass of wine and we could die happy. We have two mischievous Wire Fox Terriers with completely opposite personalities but with a shared love of uprooting anything in our garden. Our backyard garden includes everything from tomatoes and peppers to a fig tree, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries! I love cooking, indie music, and spending time in our wedding city of choice---Philly!
Filling out paperwork is a part of life. A part of being an adult. There have been a ton of contracts that I’ve had to look over and sign during the wedding process, I have to fill out medical forms for any new doctor I go to see, I have to fill out forms at work or at the car dealership when my car makes noises…forms are not a fun part of life, but I do it because I’m an adult and I have to.
But right now…I don’t wanna.
Since Mr. Socks and I are getting legally married next weekend(!!!), I’ve started giving a lot of thought to the process of changing my name, combining bank accounts and bills, and o-mi-gawd it’s overwhelming. (Shouldn’t this process be electronically automatic by now? Shouldn’t I just have a chip in my head that sends a signal to everyone and everything, informing them I’ve changed my name? No? Well I think I should!)
Mrs. Hot Wings, Chicago/San DiegoAge and Occupation: 28, ProfessorFiance's Age and Occupation: 32, InstructorEngagement Date: December 20, 2008Wedding Date: August 2010Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood RestaurantAbout Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!
Hive, I have a secret. I never talked about having a videographer at our wedding. Despite the fact that video was on the same priority level as photos, I haven’t written a single post on it. Why? Because the videographer that I had booked over 1 year before our wedding ended up not being able to work our wedding. Luckily for us, we had some big-time help from our fantastic coordinator Brenda Swann and the trouble vendors went away, leaving us to find new videographers a mere 2 months before the big day.
Video has been a top priority for us because we had a semi-destination wedding. One of Mr Hot Wings’ grandmas could not make it. My only living grandfather and my mom’s entire family lives in Vietnam. Only 3 people from Vietnam could join us for our wedding day. Countless friends from across the country couldn’t make it for various other reasons. Then there was the Big Fat Vietnamese American wedding situation that meant we had a growing guest list as the wedding day progressed. More specifically, the closer you are to the Hot Wings, the earlier in the day you were invited. Closest family and friends were at the tea ceremony, close family and friends were at the civil ceremony, and the reception included a wider net of my family’s Vietnamese kin network. Even though we didn’t invite some guests to earlier events, we wanted to share those events with them anyways. For all these reasons, we decided that a Same-Day-Edit Video would be essential. It would allow us to quickly share our day with loved ones at our reception as well as with those who could not make the trip to San Diego. Read more…

I'm a lover of history, all seasons, sewing and Incubus. I design costumes on the side for my old high school's theatre department, which is where I met my sexy man. Our motto for our Big Fat Lebanese/Portuguese/Irish near-300 person wedding is "the more the merrier"! We are marrying in a Catholic ceremony and are hammering out the details of our Victorian-inspired reception.
I’m awesome at ruining people’s surprises for me. I think it’s a combination of being a superbrat, wanting to always be in the know, and my childhood dream of becoming a detective. I was that kid who could unwrap a gift and wrap it back up so you couldn’t tell it had been opened. I knew every floorboard and step that creaked in my house in order to sneak upstairs on Christmas Eve and secretly watch my mom wrap gifts. I always found where my mother hid her gifts, until she started puttin’ them at Aunt Flo’s, and believe me, I tried my luck getting into her house. The best surprise discovery, however, happened for my 16th birthday party. My mother left the DJ receipt buried in an envelope in the back of her scarf drawer out in plain sight! Of course, that was after I yelled embarrassing untruths about my friends in the high school hallways trying to force it out of them. Read more…

I don't do well with surprises. I love planning, crafting, Newport RI, family and friends, and most importantly, Mr. Starfish---all of which will be big components in our October wedding in our favorite little city by the sea.
Our wedding bands are in! I was a little antsy waiting for mine because when I went to try on the matching band to my engagement ring they didn’t have it in stock. I tried on two other bands, which were basically the same, but one was a bit thinner, the other a bit thicker. The sales associate told me the third option would be just right, but not having tried it on, I was a bit worried. But now it’s here and the sales associate was right, it’s perfect! I love that it looks just as beautiful on its own as it does with the engagement ring.
After picking them up we decided to engrave our rings. At first we were going to surprise each other. But, we both knew what the other one would choose because we both came up with the same idea. Read more…

I wanted to get dress shopping done early because I felt that the dress would set the tone and the theme for the entire event. I began my dress shopping adventure by browsing through bridal magazines in an effort to research designers and to get an idea of what I wanted. This did not help me at all. I had a very clear idea of what I wanted, but I wasn’t sure how it would look on me. I went to David’s Bridal with a friend who is also wedding planning, and we tried on several very different gowns to narrow down our search. I found shopping with no intent to buy incredibly helpful, and I highly recommend it when it comes to wedding dresses. I came to David’s Bridal with A, B, and C in mind; I left thinking of X, Y, and Z.
Attached to the idea of a dress with X, Y, and Z, I began to research bridal boutiques. I Googled, asked around, and narrowed it down to seven stores. I then looked at each store’s website and viewed their selections. Some carried more designers than others, and some had more affordable designers. I narrowed it down again to three final stores and made appointments. All of this involved lots of color-coded spreadsheeting, of course!
