Just a couple weeks ago we had an impromptu garage sale after combing our households. How, you may ask, does one go about having an impromptu garage sale? Well first you have 3x as much stuff as your townhouse has room for.
I just realized I never told you about the proposal. For this, I’m going to take you back. Way back…back in time.

Wedding Dress Dreams…Every Girl Has ‘Em!
It might sound foolish, but I have this little wish. More than having beautiful decorations, good food, or rockin’ music, I want people to look at me when I step into the garden for our ceremony and think, “Wow! She’s a beautiful bride!”
There have been so many times that I didn’t feel beautiful in front of Mr. Brooch, whether it was because I was sick, had no makeup on, or whatever. We’ve all had those times we didn’t feel our best. I think women in serious relationships deal with this a lot because logistically there’s not enough time (or patience) to put yourself together to perfection when you live with someone and see them every day (at least not for me). Nevertheless, Mr. Brooch has always told me I am beautiful. He loves me more without makeup and in sweats than when I’m dolled up in jeans and heels. Of course, this means a lot to me, and it’s one (of the many) reasons I love him.
Ooh, Ahhh…
With that said, I want others to see me they way he does, especially on our wedding day. There will be people there that we don’t see very often and that we haven’t seen in years. My wish is that they’ll walk away thinking, “Wow, that’s a beautiful couple!” I’m not really worried about what my family will think of Mr. Brooch because I am convinced they will adore him (and plus, he always looks good, haha). But I am more concerned with the impression I give his family and friends. I want them to see something beautiful in me.
Of course, every bride wants this! Every bride wants to look her best and feel amazing on her wedding day, duh! Especially during that moment when all eyes are on her. Therefore, I know I am in good company. I know there are experts out there, wonderful bridesmaids, and other bride-entourage members (like the hair and makeup team) that will work to make this happen.

Hive, thank you so much for your great suggestions on our stocking-the-bar issue! I have some sad (for me) news regarding The Great Beer Debate. When I was home for my bridal shower, I was describing our beer choices to the Parents Octopus, as well as gleefully noting how Weddingbee mostly agreed with me that a light beer was not a necessary menu option.
But, surprise! Mom Octopus informed me that Dad Octopus wants to drink Labatt Blue at the reception, and since Dad Octopus has been so easygoing, diplomatic, and supportive throughout the planning of this whole shindig (and holds a hearty share of the purse strings), what he wants, he gets. I mean, my first suggestion was that an alternative to the Labatt would be for Dad Octopus to develop better taste in beer, which he chuckled at, but…no dice. Labatt Blue is on the beer menu.
Then, tonight, I assembled an informal tasting panel consisting of Mr. Octo, MOH/Sister Lauren, and BM/Cousin Katie to try out some of the cocktail options you all shared with us. Want to see the winners?

Rawr! Our newest bee comes to us straight from Hotlanta! Must I say “Hotlanta” every time Atlanta is mentioned? Yes. Say hello to Miss Lioness!

Miss Lioness, Atlanta
Age & Occupation: 25, Physical Therapist
Fiance’s Age & Occupation: 25, Attorney
Engagement Date: August 29, 2009
Wedding Date: April 2011
Venue: Anthony’s Fine Dining
About Me: I’m a Southern girl with New England roots. I say “wicked” and “y’all” in the same sentence and I like to drink sweet tea with my lobster. Mr. Lion and I are both former Floridians now living in Atlanta, which fortunately is still SEC country…Go Gators! We both love baseball, coffee, traveling, cooking, and playing Words with Friends with each other on our iPhones all day long. I’m very passionate about the things and the people I love, and I tend to plan things with all of my heart…our wedding, of course, is no different! Oh, and also Mr. Lion is a first generation American of Cuban descent. I may look more like Lucy than Ricky, but I’m doing my best to incorporate some Latin elements into our vintage-garden-Southern wedding!
I’m not much of a DIY bride, but I had one project I absolutely loved.
I’m not sure if it was the romantic “idea” of a flower, or my belief that a bride should always have something beautiful on her head, but I loved making this. I loved it so much that I didn’t want to finish it—so I didn’t, until the week of the wedding.
From the beginning of my wedding planning, I saw these beautiful hair pieces and was disappointed that they cost so much, when they looked like something I could learn to make. So, I pledged to teach myself how to do it, and now I’ll teach you, too! (I’m very excited about this.)
I actually made this project twice. The first one was made hastily the night before my bridal portrait (photos by Heather Essian).

No? That’s not how it goes?

Coulda fooled me. I’d like to think of my wedding mantra as:
Okay, so if you haven’t been keeping up, I tried to make a test wedding cake using the new Cricut Cake. Super fail. So now, I’m testing out this whole Rice Krispies cake concept. Overall, I’d say my first attempt was a super success, and I see no reason why we shouldn’t be able to have a crazy cute cake on our wedding day.
I just popped on a little lace I had leftover from another project, and it looked alright. It wasn’t exactly the feel I was going for, and was a bit too tall.

I’m being incredibly inconsistent and patchy with “recaps” that are more like teasers. But some things deserve their own pre-recap posts. Next up: shoes!
Our venue’s hardwood floors presented a loud-shoe problem, which I outlined here. The hive came through, offering plenty of suggestions for making my walk down the aisle sound less like a horse on a slow gallop. The fab Miz Stripes had the best tip of all, pointing me to Hush Heels and, even better, kindly sending me some in the mail. I can’t even find the exact ones online, but they’re basically puffy foam stickers (kind of like Thickers for the scrapbookers out there) that go on the bottoms of your shoes. You might have to cut them to size, but they’re excellent for muffling.
Tips (via Stripes and Taco) if you use them:

You got it! I’m talking about a sweetheart table at the reception. I love love love the idea of an individual table just for the bride and groom. Why, you ask? Well, let me tell you…
First, chances are we’re not going to be sitting a whole lot at the reception, anyways. So, to me, it makes more sense to have a table just for the two of us. That way if we get up to chat, we’re not abandoning our fellow table-mates.
Second, it seems romantic. On the off chance that we do actually sit at our table, we get it all to ourselves. We can share some private moments that I know we’ll be craving that day.
Third, well—let me show you in pictures:
How I found the hive (or rather, how the hive found me):
In the summer of 2009, I was newly engaged and eager to start planning my wedding. Of course, I had accumulated about 40 wedding magazines, was researching local vendors, and…I was searching the Internet for inspiration. I had just started a Twitter account, and one day I happened to see a Tweet from the lovely Mrs. Penguin! She was soliciting for new applications to blog for Weddingbee, and the icons were absolutely adorable! The funny thing is, the first thing that popped into my head was to tell one of my other soon-to-be bride friends from college about the site (which I did). I didn’t think much about blogging at that point, but I quickly subscribed to the site and became pretty active on the boards. Life was good.
My application story:
After joining in on the boards for a few months and starting to dive headfirst in reading the blogs (I was reading them all…archives, current bees, you name it!), it got me thinking…why the heck can’t I start a blog? I have always loved to write, and since my friends and family were not around to share every wedding-related detail with, it seemed like a great outlet to let them in on my planning! So…I did it. I started a free blog and began writing about all of my experiences.
I won’t lie: it wasn’t easy at first.

With the popularity of wedding inspiration boards rising, I decided to make one of my very own.
I’m not very good with Photoshop or Illustrator (which I don’t have on my laptop, but Mr. E does have on his), so I went the easy route and made my board in PowerPoint. I opened up a new slide and deleted the default text boxes. I’ve been collecting pictures for quite some time, so the hardest part was going back and finding all of the sources for those pictures.
I started inserting pictures, resizing them, and moving them around so they would overlap and fit on the screen. I added pictures from online as well as a couple of my own DIY projects that have already been completed.
I am very fortunate to have three amazing men in my life—Mr. Husky, my father, and my stepfather. Mama Husky married Step-Husky during my middle school years, and over time we have grown very close. Daddy Husky and I have stayed close throughout my lifetime, despite living many hundreds of miles away from one another. So when it came time for their little girl to get married, I wanted to find a way to honor them both.

Ahhhhh, yes, now where was I? Oh, that’s right, I just finished telling you about our kick-a$$ bonfire the night before the wedding. Suffice to say, it took this bride a little longer than usual to feel like her normal, sunshine-y self the next morning.
But I did finally manage to drag myself out of bed because I had made plans with some friends to go for a short run in the morning. This was an awesome way to start our wedding day, even though some of us struggled more than others. It also started to rain while we were out and the optimistic, naive part of my brain was still convinced it would clear up by the afternoon. HA.
After the run and a delish, communal breakfast of french toast and fritattas with everyone, thanks to our awesome bed and breakfast (Shaker Meadows), the time had come for my “bridal transformation.” (Snicker.)
Now, here’s the deal with me and makeup:

Japan…oh, Japan.
After 20 days, I feel like I could write 50 posts on our honeymoon. But this is a wedding blog and not a deranged-fangirl blog, so I’ll *try* and keep it to a minimum.
Now, here’s basically how this trip happened. Mr. Sew planned everything. He did all the reading, all the talking, all the guessing, and all the map-directioning. I, his wifu, stood faithfully by repeating the same litany of Japanese words I had picked up.
Sugoii! (Unreal!)
Atsuiii…(It’s hot)
Itaiii…(It hurts)
Onaka ga peko peko! (Grumbly stomach…or something)
That, and the repetition of a commonly aired commercial I happened to get stuck in my head…
