Before I get to the reception, I want to share with you the two things (besides food) that our guests were looooving during our cocktail hour. And the first one up is…candy!

Maybe you remember the post I wrote about our DIY candy table waaaay back in pre-wedding life. In it, I shared a lot of the details that were taking shape in this little project that my mom and I decided to take on together. We bought the clear jars at Target and Marshall’s, and added some milk glass and antique silver containers to incorporate the table into the vintage theme of the rest of our wedding.
I designed the labels myself and printed them out on my home printer. We purchased the candy through a variety of sources (wherever it was cheapest), but the main source I recommend for buying bulk is CandyWarehouse.com. To make it more personal, we bought local by purchasing all of the saltwater taffy in Pismo Beach, California. And after my many failed attempts, I built up the confidence to bake the pink macarons myself! (Even though I got so busy the day before the wedding, that I forgot the filling I’d made in the refrigerator! Thankfully, Mr. Turtle’s mom remembered to fill them the morning of the wedding!) My mom and I made the table linens together. It was my first learning to sew project after my mom bought me a sewing machine for my bridal shower!

My mom collected antique silver serving spoons to use as candy scoops.
We bought the clear and pink bags and brown bow twist ties online.
Before the wedding, I’d had a lot of questions concerning the candy table. Like, what if we run out of candy? What if no one understands the concept and it just sits there all night? What if, what if, what if?? But it was amazing to see how much guests of all ages loved it! Since most of our guests weren’t very wedding trend savvy, they thought it was a totally original idea. Overall, it was a great thing to have at the wedding, and I’m thankful I went with my gut instinct on it, instead of giving in to my fear of candy buffet tables being too trendy.
Are you having a candy buffet at your wedding or any other spinoff on the idea? If your wedding has already passed and you had a candy buffet, how did it go over at your wedding?
In case you missed out on my earlier recap posts:
