About Ms. Sloth

Giddyup, Pardner!

October 1st, 2010 @ 8:44 am by Ms. Sloth

I’m the type of person who gets an idea in her head and then becomes obsessed with it. Today, I’m obsessed with the idea of bridesmaids in cowboy boots.

Because look how cute they are. For serious, y’all. I’m dying.

I want to do this now, so badly, but I probably won’t. Because a good pair of cowboy boots is freakin’ expensive, and I don’t want the girls to have to buy them in addition to a dress. And I’d buy them for the girls if I thought they’d wear them again, but I think only one might, and the other two would just bury them in their closets forever.

But now I’m on a mission to find some cute, comfy, and cheap cowboy boots for the girls. It’s worth a shot, after all.

Would you consider cowboy boots for the bridal party? Or do you think I’m crazy?

It’s so cute! If a bride asked me to buy cowboy boots I would be all over it-it would be my guilt free excuse for spending the money.

SLOTH! That first picture has been in my inspiration folder forever!!! Yes, I totally love the cowboy boots, but isn’t the picture itself so fabulous? I totally want one just like it of me and my girls on the big day. I bet you can find some decent priced boots if it’s what you really want!

I don’t think you’re crazy at all, I want to wear cowboy boots at my wedding and I’m the bride! But, I think you’re right, they are expensive and if your bridesmaids don’t have the same tastes as you, they probably won’t ever wear them again. I think it also has to be situation appropriate, obviously, cowboy boots would look a little out of place in a ballroom…

Not crazy. They’re super cute. My mum is a line dancer and she would seriously DIE if we went with this theme! ;)

I think this is one of those things you would have to run by the maids first. While I think the photos I’ve seen ARE super cute, if I were a maid I would CRINGE at the suggestion of cowboy boots, for a few reasons.

1. I have teensy feet and huge calves, so finding boots is impossible without spending at least $200. Even some wide widths don’t fit. It’s annoying.

2. As a short person with short legs, tall boots make me look shorter.

3. I know I would never wear them again.

So, if it were me as a maid, I would want to be asked honestly first of my feelings on the idea. I would NEVER tell the bride no, but I would warn her of at least the first 2 reasons. If she could find a pair that would fit me and she was buying, I would absolutely wear them in her wedding, but I would not be a happy camper if she made me buy them.

Not trying to rain on the cowboy boots parade (because the pictures ARE super cute) but I’m just playing devil’s advocate, as someone who has a love/hate relationship with boots in general.

I wanted to do that so bad… everyone thought I was nuts though and my mom called it “tacky”.

Um forget you, this is Houston! But as usual I caved and strappy black heels it is. lame.

I think the photos are cute, but the thought of a Philly wedding in cowboy boots doesn’t fit in my mind. Definitely a fit for a Texas wedding or even a rural wedding where the girls already have and use cowboy boots. I think cheap shoes tend to be very uncomfortable, so cheap boots would be terrible!

They are cute for the right kind of wedding like outdoor rustic or a barn wedding. Also could be cute if they were something the girls normally wore.

If you have a TJ Maxx in your area they have a huge, affordable selection of cowboy boots.

Does it fit with you guys’ everyday style? If so, go for it!! I’m a country girl and love the look of cute boots (except I’m honestly more of a small-town-girl turned country by her farm-boy-fiance so my boots are Steve Madden).

I am so with you on this! I just got my first pair of cowboy boots, and I am literally wearing them with everything. Try endless.com… they have a huge selection of boots in every prince, style and color. I got mine on sale there for about $50. Aaaaand they offer free shipping (usually overnight or 2 day) both ways, so if they don’t work you can send them back without loosing a cent! (warning, because of the free shipping, their site can get addicting).

I am so wearing boots under my dress. Luckily I already have some boots, and they’re just your basic brown leather with some tannish-orangeish stitching. I don’t plan on buying a new pair because they are pricey and mine are in good enough shape.

As far as my bridesmaids go, I’ll probably just let them wear whatever is comfortable, whether that be boots, heels, flats whatever. As long as we’re all somewhat matchy. I love how the boots look on all of the bridesmaids, but like you said, a really good pair can get pricey and I don’t want to force that on them. But again, if you can find some reasonably priced cute and comfy boots for all of your girls then go for it!! I think it’s adorable :)

oh gosh, i love the first photo by our labor of love - i have it saved in my “inspiration pile” even though we’re having a beach wedding! i would take a peek at ebay and see if you can find some lo cost cowboy boots - if they are cheap enough for you to get, your BM’s would be jazzed to throw these on for the day. hope you can make this happen! :)

No, if only because we live in Cow-town, and our wedding is dangerously close to the Calgary Stampede. I love this city I live in, but I am just SO not a cowgirl, so I try to be out of town, or lock myself indoors the whole time the Stampede is going. In 2011, I’m hoping to be on my honeymoon far, far away while the city goes crazy!

But if cowboy boots are you, go for it! They’re just not ‘me’.

Love those on other people, but never considered them for my girls. I am not a cowgirl, and none of them are either. Maybe if we got married up north in the woods I would be more inclined to consider it.

Miss Sloth, I had my bridesmaids do this for my wedding (on a ranch in North Central Washington) and my girls LOVED that they got to wear boots. Those that didn’t have boots bought used pairs on Ebay or Goodwill. Cowboy boots are one of those items that turn up all the time used, especially now for Halloween. I’m sure your girls would be able to find inexpensive used boots. Cheers!
