Spicing Up the Bridal Attire

October 1st, 2010 @ 3:38 pm by Mrs. Elephant

Although pearls seem to be the quintessential go-to in the wedding-jewelry category, they really aren’t my style. I gravitated to jewelry with a little more sparkle for the wedding. I also wanted to bring in some blue to go with the wedding colors and my shoes. (And yes, I realize that not many people are going to be looking from my neck to my feet, but just go with it. :P)

Mom Elephant, Aunt Bunny, and I have all checked out some sapphire and diamond (or crystal, ’cause really diamonds may be a little out of the budget for wedding-day jewelry) options online similar to these.

Not too bad for $30

In my dreams at $1,700

Another reasonable find at $40

When we went to the store to pick up my veil that my mother so wonderfully purchased for me (more on that later!), we decided to check out some of the necklaces and earrings at the counter. I didn’t plan on purchasing anything there but, of course, found a pair of earrings that I fell in love with! With the 15% discount on everything in the store (since I purchased my wedding dress there), I went ahead and picked them up.

Love them! Now the challenge is to find a necklace that will go with these beauties. I tried on one necklace at the store that was gorgeous but maybe a little out of budget at $300??

Sorry for the iPhone pic. (Don’t mind the hair—just came from the March of Dimes walk.)

I decided that I would wait to see if it goes with my dress, as in doesn’t take away from the dress. We shall see when the dress comes in!

Did you go with jewelry other than pearls for your wedding?

I like the third one ~ matches nicely with the earrings, which are gorgeous, btw.

I must say the earrings are gorgeous but I am thinking that a necklace too may be much to much going on… I’d say, rock those earrings and maybe a bracelet… *maybe*… beautiful though!

I’m wearing sapphires too but didn’t have the budget to get anything too high end. I ended up getting these when it was on sale for $260

My only caution when getting things not in a set is to ensure the blues of the sapphire are similar and wont be noticeably different. Especially between your necklace and earrings.

@casey: That’s my question, on if it will be too much. When I post my dress I hope to get some more advice if it’s too much, or if a necklace is needed.

@Lil: Beautiful set!!

Is it bad I like the $30 & $40 necklaces better than the expensive one? ;) I love what you chose. It looks lovely on you.

I hear you on the lack of love for pearls… or just not the excitement for pearls. I haven’t figured out what I’ll be doing, though. But I had to grin when I saw the blue, because my e-ring has sapphires so I instantly thought, hey, there you go. Don’t think it’d go well with my dress if I had too much of it, though.

Those earrings are so pretty!

I won’t be wearing pearls. I’d look ridiculous. I’m not a pearls kinda lady.

I will be wearing mostly cubic zircona jewellery as I’m too cheap to buy diamonds for a one day thing!

Lovely! Sapphire blue was our main color, but surprisingly, I didn’t wear any sapphire jewelry (nor pearls :). I would have worn sapphires, but real ones definitely were not in the budget and I couldn’t find any cheap substitutes (unlike the beautiful ones you found for $30 and $40).

Don’t. Like. Pearls. Your sapphires are much more MY style! ;)

That last necklace is amazing! I would have to see it with the dress though to decide if its “too much”

I’m not much of a pearls person either, but SO wishing I could wear anything other than gold! I’m allergic to nickel :( and anything else is SO not in the budget! Luckily I have a few pieces that I’m considering. And hoping the FI will gift me something new before the wedding :)

Love the earrings! They have a vintage-y feel to them, so I would stay away fro more modern looks in the necklace…

No pearls for me! They’re way too traditional. I am wearing Swarovski crystal jewelry for my beach wedding - a starfish necklace and earrings. I wanted some color, too, so I chose th a/b crystal that has some iridescence to it, and when worn against the skin it has a slight orange cast which matches my colors. I also got matching (but smaller) starfish necklaces for the bridal party, and matching “foot jewelry” (www.tootsie-footsie.com) since the girls will be barefoot on the beach.

@NotYourTypicalBride: That sounds so pretty! My best friend wore Swarovski crystal necklace and earrings for her wedding and it was gorgeous!
