Mrs. Knitting's Picture
Mrs. Knitting, Toronto Age and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD Candidate Engagement Date: October 2009 Wedding Date: December 2010 Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.
About Mrs. Knitting

Hive, I need your help. A while back I told you how I was trying to figure out floral alternatives for pretty much everything. That’s right: there will basically be no flowers at our wedding. You guys gave me some pretty great ideas, but I was still having trouble with what to do with the groomsmen. One day while browsing the St. Lawrence Antique Market I came across Christmas pins for $2 each and snatched a few up. However, I can’t decide if I like them or not.

Here they are:

I also tried to get Mr. K to model them for you, but he was very grumpy about this idea, so I only got pictures of 2 before his grumpiness became overwhelming. he also refused to put them anywhere but his lapel because he didn’t want “suit holes.” SOMEONE’s not getting the calf massage he was promised…

Okay, so here’s my thing: some days I love them, and other days I think they look too juvenile. I do like the fact that they’re very Christmas-y, from the antique market, and pretty fun, but I’m worried about them coming across as a bit cheesy.

What do you think? Should we go with the pins or should we keep looking?

@Mrs. Moonbeam: I love the mistletoe idea. Not such a fan of the pins.

I vote mistletoe (if it isn’t too sharp that it would hurt during hugging). These pins scream “ugly sweater party” to me. I think they remind me of women with bad christmas sweaters in the 80s that also wore the pins. Weird how memories are so specific, right?!

I also like the mistletoe idea, or maybe pine branches or snowberries (ok, so mistletoe might qualify as a flower, but pine isn’t! It’s a tree!)

I could see a basket of pins near the door/at the reception for guests to add some holiday cheer to their outfits if they wanted.

I am not a huge fan of the pins, but if you really love them, why not attached a sprig of mistletoe or pine to chic them up a bit. If you decide to ditch them, I like Mrs. Moonbeam’s idea of mistletoe or perhaps a sprig of pine with a few mini pinecones.

ehhhh, I hate to say it, but they look a little tacky. But there are lots of non-floral options in winter because there are few flowers in winter. Keep thinking!

I do think the gingerbread man is cute but there has to be a better option. I agree with Mrs. Moonbeam (and the others after her) about mistletoe or something similar.

I agree, they are SUPER cute, but little tacky. and remind me of my grandma or something. I like the mistletoe idea too!

They’re cute, but something my grandma would wear. I also love the mistletoe idea.

I love the gingerbread an pin! But I don’t think I would use them for the wedding. I love the mistletoe idea! Although, isn’t mistletoe spikey?

Sorry Miss K, not a fan of the pins. They are throwback in a bad way. Mistletoe isn’t spikey, everyone is thinking of Holly, which I love the idea of either of those. Or even a bit of real evergreen.

Sorry, but I am not really a fan of the pins. It looks kinda kitschy to me.

I’m not a fan of the pins either. What about a small candy cane with holly or evergreen behind it?

Not really feeling the pins. It reminds me the dollar store flicker earrings my grandma buys everybody at Christmas and we feel guilty and wear them.

What about like, something cinnamon sticks and pine? I like the mistle toe as well.

Oh, or maybe some cranberries, or pine cones…
