About Mrs. Zebra

If any of you are on the fence as to whether or not to hire a videographer, I feel you. I always thought this was just another waste of money forced upon us by the wedding industry. I shall now regail you with the reason I am now loud and proud PRO-videographer.

My brother and sister-in-law were married last fall in a beautiful wedding. Their twin two-year-old sons were ring bearers. Now I don’t like tooting my own horn, but these two are the cutest little guys you ever did see. Ha! Who am I kidding? I run out of the house after the mail woman for the opportunity to show them off. Now I know that everyone always talks about the “terrible twos,” and believe me they are indeed bratty, but this is also one of the cutest stages they go through, too. I believe that’s God’s way of making them more appealing. You may have just taken a Spongebob walkie-talkie to the head…but look at that smile! My point is—these moments are fleeting.

The twins LUUUUUUUUURVE them some “MommaDadda video.” They watch it several times a week. It’s not just that they like to watch it, they participate along with the video. They clap when Mom and Dad kiss. They point out all the various family members who appear. They sit quietly while Auntie reads her awesome speech. They cry and scold my SIL when Mom smashes the cake in Dad’s face. But the best part is the dancing. They like—no, they demand—to dance with you, starting with the first dance. I love twirling around the living room with a baby resting his head on my shoulder, hugging me, while Lifehouse sings in the background. I asked my sister-in-law last night if she thinks they’ll still do this when they are sixteen. For some strange reason, I don’t think they will, but for now, Auntie Poop (yes you read that right) will enjoy every damn minute of the MommaDadda video.

We’re going to try recording their reaction to the video because it is quite funny and a great joy in life. Hopefully someday you’ll be shaking your booty to Sir Mix-A-Lot with a baby who can’t stop laughing.

Oh, I wish that we could’ve afforded a videographer, but it just wasn’t possible as they are outrageously expensive + travel cost. I asked my Dad, who always recorded his stand-up, to tape it, but he forgot to push record after starting the music (he was our dj) and running back to escort me. Oops! Now it’s just one of the funny stories from our wedding.

At my Grandparents 60th wedding anniversary I saw a super 8 clip of their wedding. It was maybe a minute and a half long, but I didn’t know it existed. It was amazing to me. We couldn’t afford a videographer, but we did have a camera on a tripod for the ceremony and a groomsman taking some video at the reception. It’s not amazing, but I hope 60 years from now, someone enjoys it.

We can’t afford a videographer, but I’m hoping to recruit someone to record our ceremony and the “big” moments at the reception.

@Teresa M: I am Auntie Poop. To think I spent 9 months contemplating what they should call me and in the end… I am Auntie Poop.

To those of you who can’t afford a videographer, try to ask a family member of friend with a camera to get the important parts of your day. Even if it is not edited and set to music, I’m sure you will cherish it.
