Why Don’t You Take a Seat?

October 2nd, 2010 @ 11:15 am by Mrs. Socks

Okay. So. Mr. Socks and I have to rent 8 tables for our wedding venue since the restaurant’s in-house tables are high, bar-style tables (well, it is a bar, after all) which wouldn’t do so well for ladies in nice dresses. Originally, I pictured all rectangular tables and then we’d use the four booths that are downstairs as well. Each rectangular table would seat 8 guests.

And then…we ended up with four tables which only had 6 guests each when I made up the seating chart. Hmm.

So we decided to just do a mish-mash of tables in order to seat everyone with people that they knew!

Yep. We’re doing tables of four, tables of six, and tables of 8. Small, medium and large, if you will!

And you know what?

I think it looks pretty darn good! Everyone will be sitting with people they know this way, and it’ll all be nice and cozy—who cares what shape the tables are?

But since we had to rent the tables instead of use the in-house tables, I needed to find some linens! I could have used the black or white linens that Ladder 15 had for no charge, OR I could have rented pretty linens that are totally unnecessary, but oooh, they’re pretty!

We had three choices:

Why Don’t You Take a Seat? : wedding guest list philadelphia reception Burnt O

Burnt Orange Satin were the cheapest…

Why Don’t You Take a Seat? : wedding guest list philadelphia reception Pintuck

Pintuck Pumpkin, which are the second cheapest, and finally:

Pumpkin Satin linens, which are super duper expensive.

Source for all 3

After hemming and hawing about how important some bed sheets draped over a table were, we decided to go with…

The pumpkin pintuck linens!!!

Ahhhh!!!

Yeah. I know. It’s probably not the most important thing in the world to get specialty linens, but I think it’ll look ah-mahz-ing with our flowers and the fall feast that will be on the tables!!

And though Mr. Socks was leaning more toward the cheaper linens, he figured that an extra $100 would be worth seeing his bride happy. :-)

Ohh, it’s so worth it, Mr. Socks. It’s worth it!

Did you pick specialty linens? Or did you have a mish-mash of table shapes and sizes? How did it work out?

Pretty! Haven’t picked our linens yet but cannot wait to. Also, I am a sucker for the “It’s only 100$ more” except sometimes it ends up being “It’s only 900$ more.” In the overall scheme of things, it doesn’t seem like a lot…until it does.

But I love the Pumpkin pintuck. That would go well with my colors too!

I LOVE your choice! I honestly didnt worry too much about linens, but I did know that I wanted burlap table runners. I had a hard time convincing my FMIL b/c she thought it would look too “barnish”, but after many pictures, she loves them just as much as me. We decided to go w/ antique white for linens and burnt orange napkins. I can’t wait to see everything put together….we too are having fall orange flowers!

That color is really pretty! We had our reception in a restaurant so we had rectangular tables and circle tables and had different numbers of people at all of them. It was great because we could just seat people with who they knew and didn’t have to worry about meeting a certain number.

Is it totally horrible that I thought of “To Catch a Predator” when I read your post title?

And the pintuck is beautiful! That would have been my choice, too!

I picked the same linens in platinum - I saw them in person a few weeks ago - they are beautiful. Great choice. I also had an option of a platinum satin like the 3rd choice, but actually the one we picked gives some depth to the table and doesnt make it look so plain.

I love the pin tucks but I did read here on weddingbee once that wineglasses can be a problem - they tip because the high seams put them off balance. I don’t know if its true, but it stuck in my head so you may want to check that…

We have large 60″ tables and then smaller 30″ cocktail tables and we have several different types of centerpieces. I like the non-uniform style.

Ooooh, love the orange! We are splurging on pintucks too. There was never a question in my mind that we would do it. It’s a must have for me and since we’re having a small event (like you) it’s totally within budget!

Love the texture! I’d like to do burlap runners, too, and saw a wedding the other day where they had burlap cloths with a lace overlay and it was really pretty.

In regards to different table sizes, I went to a reception a few weeks ago at a restaurant, and I think the different sizes were fantastic! The “young” people were at a few larger tables where we could laugh and be a little louder and move around, and people who wanted a little more intimacy were at the smaller booths. It was great and really minimized the awkwardness that could’ve resulted from totally random arrangements. Your plan looks awesome!

I was at a wedding last night that used pumpkin pintuck for napkins with a rich brown for the tablecloths. It was lovely. I am sure you will be happy with your choice!
