Mrs. Taco's Picture
Mrs. Taco, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 29, writer/editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 37, editor Engagement Date: May 13, 2009 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: The Green Room at the War Memorial Veterans Building About Me: I like laughing and talking with good friends over good food and good drink, be it wine, cocktail, or brew. I write and edit things for fun and profit, but I rarely "write" these days without a keyboard and high-speed internets. Favorites include Mr. Taco, my Boston terrier, San Francisco, getting out of town, and the Roaring ’20s. I was kind-of planning a wedding since roughly 2006, when I discovered "Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?" on the WE channel. I ran and didn't look back with a theme I called "urban vintage," and it culminated in the most magical day a taco could ask for.

Tacos Return: Decompression

October 3rd, 2010 @ 2:40 pm by Mrs. Taco

We returned home to the left coast! Now that the pile of mail is gone, emails have been returned, and the house is restored to some semblance of order, it’s recap time. Wedding first, honeymoon (Italy, Greece, Egypt) next. Ashley Forrette sent our 1,000 wedding photos while we were gone, and we added another 1,000+ from the trip itself.

Even though we had a few weeks between the wedding and the honeymoon, it was really hard to properly decompress. We were really busy at work and had to tie up a lot of loose ends before we left. Probably as a result, the wedding seems like a million years ago. A few times during the trip, I remember us saying, hey, remember how we got married and had that big party? Weird!

I don’t mean to sound like we forgot how important it was.

It just seems like such a different time and place. I suppose when you consider our thoughts, worries, and preoccupations at the time, it is light years away compared to now. Once we saw the professional wedding pics, that confirmed it: it was a moment in time. A weighty, meaningful one we’ll remember forever, but an unrepeatable blip on the life radar nonetheless. Even if/when we renew vows somewhere awesome in 5 or 10 years, that’ll be a new, different blip with a new set of things to commemorate.

This is all actually OK with me. Though it’s a little sad to wave buh-bye to a great day and the feelings and excitement that came with it, I am happy to move on to a new chapter.

Diving straight back into life is proving to be the best cure for the post-wedding-and-honeymoon blues. Remembering that being married and having the best partner you could hope for is pretty kickass, I must say. I’m already planning a few trips for next year; silly husband made me wait to plan our 2011 Southeast Asia adventure and various domestic getaways until the honeymoon was over. What’s next? Nothing major for now, but everything exciting at the same time. As a friend said once we returned:

“If you play it right, the honeymoon is never over.”

Amen to that.

Next post: Tacos get ready for their big day!

Welcome back Taco! Truer words have never been spoken. I’ve been thinking about what I’m going to do with all my extra time and money after the wedding lately.
