In the Center of the Table

October 4th, 2010 @ 4:44 pm by Ms. Sloth

One of the best things about getting married in a botanical garden is that we don’t have to spend a ton of money on flowers. We’re getting married among the flowers! But the reception area is in a stone courtyard and will be tented. It’s pretty, but we’re going to get a few flowers as centerpieces to brighten it up.

I’d originally wanted to do the flowers myself, but then I spoke to a really sweet florist about a month ago, and her prices are right. I haven’t booked her yet, but I’m most likely going to. I told her how my mom and I are collecting vintage glass vases with the plan to put about three on a table, with two to three flowers in each, and how we plan to put maybe two glass votives on each table as well. She suggested that I buy some pretty squares of fabric on which to place the whole setup, which I thought was a great idea.

A few weeks ago, while Googling, I found this photo, which is almost exactly what I had in mind!

And then, a couple weeks later (yeah, I’m totes late in the game), I discovered Spoonflower, where you can upload your own design and buy fabric, or buy fabric that someone else designed.

So I’m going to order squares of this fabric for my tables. Here are the fabrics I’m leaning toward.

I think it’ll be adorable on a plain white tablecloth, and that way I won’t have to pay extra money for rented table overlays. Plus, I can take the fabric home and make pillows afterward!

The only thing I need to figure out now is the table numbers. I originally wanted to make large candle-holder table numbers out of tin cans, but I think it might be too much with the vases, flowers, and fabric, so I might do a Polaroid-type look. If anyone knows where I can find cheap table-number holders, let me know!

What are you doing for centerpieces? Would you consider using swatches of printed fabric on your tabletops?

vintage bottles, mixed print fabrics and a smattering of flowers? love!!

we are thinking of a similar type of look for our little beach wedding…i’ve amassed pale aquamarine mason jars and lavender bottles that will carry two or three blooms. in between these will be white sea coral and silver mercury glass votives…all over rustic linen tablecloths :) updates to follow!

and i cannot wait to see pics of the finished product…they sound amazing!

I love this look! Ours will be a little like yours as well, except we will have mainly doily runners instead of fabric…but some fabric splashes here and there too! Your tables are going to look awesome :)

Those look a LOT like what we did for our reception tables this past weekend! You can see them on our florists blog if you want… http://floralatte.blogspot.com/2010/10/sarah-peter-october-2-2010.html

We’re doing the same thing…only the different fabrics will be used as both table runners AND table “numbers.” The guests will have little flags in their pattern of fabric with their names on them, and they have to find that table with coordinating fabric. It might be a pain, but I think it’s a cute idea in theory :). I got the idea from Martha Stewart Weddings.

We used mirrors because we knew the lighting would be a little dim as the night wore on, and every little bit helps, but I am totally, shamelessly hoarding ideas for the next family wedding, and this is VERY “them.” Slacker just needs to propose so I can present these ideas to them, dangit!
