…for photos!
I wrote about our venue here, and told you how it used to be my grandfather’s garden/park. I feel incredibly lucky to get married to Mr. E there, and what is the best thing about getting married in a gorgeous garden? All the photo opportunities, of course! So I thought I would give you the grand tour of the garden and show you some of the spots that I think will be perfect for some of the more “artistic” photos of the day.
Where to start…ooh, let’s start with the “lake,” as us grandchildren call the big pond in the centre of the garden:
To the right, you can see our reception site. That little gazebo in the distance will be perfect for some photos (perhaps even to make the obligatory group photos a little more interesting?), and photos with the pond in the background are sure to be beautiful. Wondering what the building is behind the gazebo? That’s my grandparents’ old house…empty now.
If we are lucky, we might get some pics there too!
More “lake,” at the point where a man-made creek joins it:
My favourite place in the garden is the “Rose Pergola.” In January all the roses should be in full bloom so I’m really excited about getting some photos taken there.
Right next to the roses are the fountains. My grandfather created this section in memory of his sister who passed away due to AIDS quite a few years ago. It is very special to me that I will be able to have wedding photos that have links to family history in them.
The more formal herbaceous section also adjoins the rose pergola. The smells you get in this part are incredible! It reminds me of a garden that you might see attached to a stately English manor, something that appeals to Mr E and me greatly with our visions of teacups and other English-y goodness for our wedding.
I have a thing for little bridges and this garden has a couple of those to keep me happy for photos:
The “White Garden” sounds like a perfect place for wedding photos too…this part of the garden is planted with a variety of white flowering plants so that no matter what time of year it is there will be lots of white everywhere because at least one plant will be blooming.
There are some other areas of the garden which I don’t have photos of at the moment, but basically there will be many, many good places for trying out our wedding poses: little stone-lined walkways lined with ferns, a rhododendron path, even a little boat on the middle of the pond which we might (if we are lucky and very careful!) get to take for a spin.
I will leave you with one more pic. This is an area where many plants and aloes (grandad’s passion) from Africa are planted…and you can also see the little Japanese rock garden which overlooks the pond. Grandad likes to mix cultures.
I hope you enjoyed your tour! Did you have fun scouting out potential photo spots before you wedding day?
