About Mrs. French Fries

With our grand entrance complete (and with Mr. FF still in one piece after his crane kick) we made our way front and center to cut our cake.

Cloudy With a Chance of French Fries: Sugar, Oh Honey Honey! : wedding milwaulkee pictures pro pics recap 1 1

We had originally planned on a three-tier cake with a simple cake flower on the side and a Precious Moments figurine that my mom had given us (to match a bridal shower gift she made for me) to decorate the cake table. We walked up to the cake table at our reception and saw … something other than what I was expecting! It was pretty, don’t get me wrong, but it just wasn’t what I envisioned!

We ended up having a two-tier cake and another separate tier of cake just for us to cut. This separate tier actually was easy-peasy to cut, and still left our “show” cake intact for people to take pictures of if they were so inclined. Our venue even boxed up the rest of the tiny tier for us to take home! It’s now sitting in our freezer, waiting to be consumed on our first anniversary. OK, so I ate a large chunk of it later that night and polished the rest of it off before we left for our honeymoon. Potato-Potahto.

With the strains of The Archies “Sugar, Sugar” filtering through our venue, we looked at the tiny cake. Umm…exactly how were we supposed to do this? Luckily, in some dark and cobwebby corner of my brain, I remembered that my hand was supposed to be touching the cake knife with Mr. FF’s hand over the top of mine.

I put my other hand over Mr. FF’s for good measure, I guess!

Mr. FF left the plating duties in my capable hands.

We cut two slices, and then realized that there weren’t any forks. We eventually decided to just use our fingers. We each took a piece and fed each other a bite.

Quickly discussing strategy.

Nom!

Sweet success.

You see, we had decided long ago that we’re not cake smashing people. I simply don’t see why would you would want to take something so sweet—the cake cutting & feeding symbolizing taking care of each other in your marriage—and turn it into a passive-aggressive, disrespectful spectacle. Oh, and not to mention smashing is a complete waste of perfectly good cake!

Our cake was so. freaking. good. Seriously - how can you go wrong with chocolate cake with mint chocolate chip frosting? The answer is you can’t. We followed it up with a sweet kiss (literally) and a dip.

Next, we settled in for our toasts - those are up next!

Miss a Chapter?

First, we drove all of our stuff to our venue.
Then, I freaked about the weather forecast.
Next, we rehearsed.
We had a yummy rehearsal dinner!
The girls got glam.
We both got dressed and ready to rock and roll.
Mr. FF watched me walk down the aisle.
We got married!!!
We beat the storm for our bridal party pictures.
We grabbed umbrellas and got lovey-dovey.
I kept it real.
We got a peek at our reception, and made our entrance Miyagi-style.

Such a sweet cake cutting! I liked that you fed the pieces to each other by hand, so much more intimate than with a fork!

Our cake cutting photos look identiacal to yours! We didnt have forks either so we have the same picture of the awkward “open your mouth wide enough so my hand doesnt get stuck” moment!! But I love it! And I totally agree about cake smashing 100% - ive never understood it!

I love that cake. So pretty! We also used our fingers and with the leftover icing, I tapped his nose even though I wasn’t supposed to do it. His face was priceless.

Our forks were forgotten also. Someone handed us some from two place settings were the guests were no shows.

Mint chocolate chip frosting?! That sounds amazing. I’m normally a white cake with white frosting kind of girl, but chocolate with mint chocolate chip frosting sounds like a little slice of heaven.
