Mrs. Brooch's Picture
Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.
About Mrs. Brooch

There’s a lot of little stuff that some people might think is unimportant, but that I feel we must have.

I got that personalized hanger and I have to warn you, it warped under the weight of my dress (which wasn’t even that heavy!) It’s still really cute though and I would still get it. Love your must-have details!

The hanger is super cute, but like Jellyfish said, it doesn’t hold the weight of the dress very well. It can still be used for a couple of cute picture though.

Just be sure to order waaay ahead of time, they usually take 8-10 weeks to arrive :)

I purchased a personalized hanger too! It was one of the first wedding items I purchased and so glad I did. Can’t wait for the photographer to get some good shots of it.

@Mrs. Jellyfish: I just saw a new one on etsy the other day that is definitely more sturdy:

An idea - if your dress is too heavy for the hanger you can capture a cute picture of your wedding day lingerie on the hanger?

I really liked the hanger idea, but was worried about it holding the weight of the dress.

You can find hangers made from a wood base, with the wire going across being personalized… I’m sure those would hold up better.

One of my BMs got me that hanger and it’s adorable! I love it. My dress weight 40 pounds though so I will have to hang my veil on it for photos lol.

I have made those personalized hangers for a few friends. I just use a wooden hanger, take out the wooden bar at the bottom and put the personalized name bent from wire in there, i wrap the wire ends around the wooden ends of the hanger (if you can visualize that) and voila - personalized hanger that can hold a wedding dress. PM me if you are interested and want me to make you one :)

i got the hanger too!! it held my dress sorta ok, it didn’t look as nice as it did on it’s actual hanger. so those photos didn’t turn out so nice :( but i have it now as a keepsake and i love it! my friend found another etsy vendor that makes them with wood hangers, such a better idea!!@future Mrs.M: you’re a smart lady :)
