Mrs. Barrettes's Picture
Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Dancer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building Contractor Engagement Date: November 16, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: V. Sattui Winery About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!
About Mrs. Barrettes

My Secret Weapon

October 7th, 2010 @ 6:16 pm by Mrs. Barrettes

I have a confession to make.

I haven’t posted at all regarding my wedding hair. It’s not because I don’t care about it, it’s because I have an ace in my back pocket. With that comfort, I just plain haven’t thought about it.

See this hair?

It was all styled by my MOH. Yes, my best friend is a professional stylist. This is not to say that I walk around with bomb-looking hair all the time, it just means that I get some A-list treatment on my wedding day. We were suppose to do a hair-trial when I spent last weekend in LA (which I meant to show you), but we were pressed for time. And you know what? I just trust that we’ll make it work.

We’re doing something with a bang, choppy just above the eyebrows and tapering down, and some sort of mid/up-do in the back since I’d like my veil to come from underneath, not on top of my head. We may do a hair change when I change into my reception dress, but we’ll leave that up to timing.

I’m so excited to see how it comes together! With a moniker like ’Barrettes’ I feel responsible for having cute wedding hair! I even found a sweet pair of orange barrettes that look like my icon. :)

Did you have a secret weapon? Did that let you rest easy, or were you more anxious about it?

Ahh! SO jealous! (that you get a pro-stylist AND you are so closely connected to Selena Gomez, haha :)) My only secret weapon is me… I’m a super crafter! So I made my own bracelet, veil, STDs, and invitations. My other is one of my best friends who’ll play violin during our ceremony!

Our florist is a family friend who’s gifting us all of our flowers. I’ve given him a vague idea of our overall vision, color scheme, and some flowers I particularly like, but otherwise I’m leaving it pretty much up to him. I trust him to create something(s) gorgeous. :)

It’s such a wonderful feeling to have friends who can help make the wedding!

I’m super lucky - my incredibly talented best friend from college is designing and making my dress (she’s a textile artist and clothing designer - it’ll be amazing); a family friend is taking our pics; and another good friend is a professional printmaker who is designing and printing our invites as our wedding present.

Super Jealous!!!!! This is awesome hair!!
My MOH and another BM are both hairstyles, so I guess you can call them my secret weapon ;) I originally asked MOH to do wedding hair, but we havent done trial (since she lives out of state and i havent seen since Jan) & I was in a wedding 3 weeks ago so asked other BM to do it as a sort of “trial”…but I didn’t LOVE it. I really dont like updos for myself and just felt it wasnt right. so the other day she curled it but i felt like it was hot curled, and i wanted soft curls. so now I’m 9 days away and still not sure what I want!!! AHHHHH :D
