Mrs. Ostrich's Picture
Mrs. Ostrich, San Francisco/Hawaii Age and Occupation: 30, Fashion Buyer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 38, Copywriter Engagement Date: October 4, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Sweet ceremony by the sea and sunset celebration on the North Shore of Hawaii About Me: Born in the city of angels and residing in the city by the bay, I’m a fearless fashion buyer by day, a passionate blog author by night and a dreamy bride-to-be in between. I thank my lucky stars to live in such a stunning city that gives me gifts like organic honey lavender ice cream, movie nights in the park, tucked away beaches, legendary record stores, '80s dance parties, awesome sports teams, stellar flea markets, and vintage bookshops. Oh, and I love to dance! We always find every excuse to escape to the beach, and decided a little seaside wedding in Hawaii is our idea of bliss. Full of our favorite people, music, food and sparkly lights, this is one sunset celebration we will always remember.
About Mrs. Ostrich

Special Guest Star

“Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.”

- Roger Caras

Hiya, bees!

I remember when I first joined the hive, a few of you asked about the third member of our Ostrich family—Napoleon. :)

Well, here he is, in full glory!

Special Guest Star : wedding hawaii pets Birthda1 birthda

When Mr. Ostrich and I first started dating, we discussed our mutual love for our four-legged canine friends. Mr. O had three dogs growing up—a Pomeranian, a chihuahua, and a Yorkshire terrier. I, on the other hand, had our beloved Akita puppies for six months before Mama Ostrich thought my aunt’s home would be a better place for them. I was so sad.

So when Mr. Ostrich and I finally decided to move into our first apartment together, I knew instantly what his birthday surprise (see how much we love surprises?) would be. A spunky little Pembroke Welsh corgi pup!

Special Guest Star : wedding hawaii pets Napoleo Napoleo

(Nap at three-and-a-half months)

Mr. O had been dreaming of a little corgi pup of his own since he was a little kid. He had a neighbor who had one and was charmed by its short legs, long body, and big-dog attitude. “And when I finally get a corgi,” he would say, “I will name him Napoleon.” And so we did. And boy, does he live up to the name! Ridiculously loving, always protecting, and too smart for his own good, he is the light of our lives.

And as much as we want Nap in our little beach wedding, it would be too complicated to fly him over and keep an eye on him throughout the zany week. So we’re trying to figure out a way to incorporate him in another way…and we thought having a “photo escort card” for him at our table would be sweet.

How about you, fellow bees? Do you have any furry friends in your family? Are they going to guest star in your special day? I can’t wait to hear about them. :)

If I could somehow incorporate Oscar-cat into our wedding, I’d do it in a heartbeat. :D

Napoleon is GORGEOUS. Oh, I love Corgis!

What a cute dog! We won’t be able to have my dog at the wedding, so I may need to borrow your idea.

We want our German Shepherd, Bruno, to be with us on the special day but it’s too much to deal with considering the venue policy. We are including him in our engagement photos instead.

Roxy, my very special kitty with a disability, is my heart cat and is the source of strength and calm whenever I’m sad or stressed out. While having her in the wedding will surely help in keeping me sane and happy on my special day, it just isn’t feasible. So I’ll have her picture in a frame which will follow me from my parents house where I’ll get ready, to our sweetheart table at the reception. I guess she’ll be my security blanket for the day ;)

I definitely know how frustrating it can be trying to get a dog through Hawaii’s quarantine system, so I’m pretty sure you made the right decision by having him join you via escort cards :) He’s so precious!

I have 2 Corgis and WISH I could have them at the wedding… but I think my church would frown upon it (although…. I think my church is going to frown upon a LOT of the goofy things I will have at my wedding haha).

Awww! Nap is such a cutie, and the name fits perfectly! The idea of escort cards is great. You should definitely use the antler photo!

Our doggie was in our engagement pics and we are going to do pet favors (dog and cat treats) for our guests to take home to their babies!

We are going to have our pit bulls as our dog of honor and best dog on our special day :-) We are going to arrange for them to get a ride home afterward, as it will be too much of a logistical nightmare to have them there for the entire reception. But it wouldn’t be right to have them there for at least part of it :-)

What a wonderful way to incorporate your little darling into the wedding. He’ll be happier at home, I’m sure, and you won’t have to worry about his health and welfare. I love it and your Napolean is adorable!

He’s adorable! We have a Cardigan corgi (the ones with a tail), and I totally agree about the ‘big dog’ mentality… she thinks she’s the same size as my parents Newfoundland. I love corgis!!!
