Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.

The Father-Daughter Dance

October 8th, 2010 @ 3:36 pm by Mrs. Brooch

Isn’t it funny how we tend to think of the smallest details, even 200 days out? I can’t stop thinking about the father daughter dance. It’s something I’m really, really looking forward to, and while some brides might opt for a funnier alternative, I’m going for the tear jerker.

Have you heard I loved her first by Heartland? I chose to post the video with lyrics, ’cause they’re just so so sweet and I don’t want you to miss any of the words! They’re perfect.

We don’t listen to country music on a regular basis, but we do have a few favorite songs.

My mom has always been a big country music fan, and I have fond memories of learning to line dance to the Boot Scootin’ Boogie by Brooks & Dunn back when I was in high school, and blaring Shania Twain’s Any Man of Mine. As a matter of fact, I swore me and my bridesmaids were going to do a line dance to that very song!

Times have changed and so have my wedding plans (we’re not planning to line dance, ha ha!), but there will always be a special place in my heart for country music.

Are you having a father daughter dance? What song did you pick?

The father/daughter dance was one of my favorites parts of the wedding (less than two weeks ago!)…we danced to the Beatles’ “Across The Universe”, but the Rufus Wainwright cover version. It was perfect.

I want to do a choreographed dance to”Why Don’t We Just Dance” by Josh Turner with my whole wedding party. Probably impossible, but love country dance and I bet there will be a line dance, ha. This song is so moving, I don’t think my dad could make it through…it will be something country for sure.

I like that song, but my dad has never even heard it so I couldn’t go with it. I had to go with an oldie that was semi sentimental to both of us.

I used this song for my Father/Daughter dance. My Dad actually chose it, he cried playing it for me when he found it and we both cried to it on my wedding day. It is a very sweet song.

My mum is a linedancer and she would DIE if we used a country song. ;) Of happiness, that is!

I want to ask my Dad closer to the day what he’d choose.. I can’t wait to see what he likes!

Beautiful song!!! It was in my top 2 Father/Daughter dance. I too am looking forward to the F/D dance SOOO much! Maybe even more than my first dance as husband/wife….my daddy means the world to me, he got custody and raised my brother and I, (something so unheard of in the early 80’s) and ever since then, we’ve been VERY VERY close. I was between “I loved her first” and “My Little girl” my Tim McGraw. I let my daddy chose and he went with Tim McGraw <3

I have heard this song at a couple of weddings down here in Texas, might be more popular since country music is big down here. Very beautiful song!

I love this song! If it were up to me this would be our father/daughter song. However I plan on letting my dad pick the song, if he happens to pick the same song it was meant to be. I think letting him pick will have more meaning and will involve him a little more the wedding planning process.

I love this song, my father is singing this song at our ceremony, and at the reception we are dancing to Daddy’s Angel by T Carter Music. I cannot wait to hear him sing that day! It will be such a tear jerker! Whatever you choose I’m sure it will be great!

I love that song — the lyrics make me tear up everytime I hear it. I also love Darius Rucker’s “It Wont Be like This for Long”

What a beautful song. It brought tears to my eyes. I’m such a daddy’s girl so this is now in the top contenders for my father-daughter song.

I’m not a country girl at all, but that song is beautiful. I cry every time I hear it.

I’m not sure if we’re going to have a father-daughter dance yet. Both my dad and I hate being the centre of attention. I do have a song I like if we do one though: Father and Daughter by Paul Simon. Its a little less sappy and a bit more upbeat (which is more like me and my daddy I guess) and the only song I’ve heard that hasn’t made me cry, which is a bonus.

@Miss Jaguar: Awh! Yay! My mom is a line dancer too! @TeacherT: Aw, man that is so sweet! I’ve heard the Tim McGraw song too and it’s good! @Engaged_With_Love: You know what? I haven’t even asked my Dad what he thinks! He might need to do that! @BunnyBunz: It makes me tear up too! @tall_jenny: Me too!@nbblondie: Yay! It’s a great pick!
