Just like with our rings, I had a very successful dress trip. At David’s Bridal. GASP!
I guess my experience wasn’t a typical one; my BFF since elementary school happens to work at one, so the customer service was excellent. She knows my tastes to a tee and pulled great looking dresses for me. The particular store I went to is super big and in a ritzy area. And of course, with her, my other 3 best friends, and Mama Glasses, I got lots of focused attention. I will say that alterations were SHOCKINGLY expensive, but if it comes out pretty I guess it’s worth it. I got a beautiful dress for a great price. The Walmart of bridal gowns? I don’t think so! Every single gown I tried on was gorgeous and reasonably priced.
Looove my BFF David’s Bridal consultant!
Even my “waiting” friend got to play!
I started the day early, but made sure to get plenty of sleep. I wanted to fix myself up because my logic was that if I felt ugly and tired, no matter how pretty the dress was, I wouldn’t feel pretty in it. I brought fab heels, a pearl necklace, and a maxi dress that is easy to slip on and off. I can tell you it definitely helped because later, when I went to do alterations and I was tired with my hair up in a messy braid and no makeup the dress didn’t feel as magical.
First up, here were the dresses that got eliminated pretty early on in the game.
While I thought they were all pretty and looked great, I had my reasons for ultimately denying them. These were the dresses that moved lower and lower into the ranking as the hours passed.
Here were the contenders. I tried them on twice to decide which ones to eliminate.
They all had their special charms. My friends were not helping. Every time I stepped out, they would say “OH MY GOSH! I LOVE IT! IT’S SOOOOOOO PRETTY!” I tried on 9 dresses with different styles and my appointment lasted over 3 hours—it was definitely hard to decide! While the lace one was classic and beautiful, I felt there was nothing unique about it. The second big poufy one was definitely unique and fun but I thought it was a bit over-the-top for a casual backyard wedding. The third one was my favorite but my friends hated it - they said I only liked it because it embodied the typical Japanese “kawaii” or “cutesy” factor with the bow and all. I still adore it but I guess it is also a little much for what we’re going for in our wedding.
In the end, it came down to these two.
I’m going to leave you hanging. Which do you think I chose? How was your dress shopping experience at the bridal salon you went to?
