I have a problem, y’all.

I can’t stop buying wedding crap.

I’m one of those people who loves owning new stuff but hates shopping, so when I started really getting into online shopping a few years ago, it was both awesome and terrible. Awesome, because I don’t have to peel my lazy ass off of the sofa to buy whatever my heart desires. And terrible because I don’t have the willpower to not buy EVERYTHING I see.

Just in the past few weeks, I’ve bought the following stuff. Keep in mind that the wedding is still EIGHT MONTHS AWAY and it’s silly of me to be buying any wedding crap as of yet.

First, I bought these paper flags that I mentioned before, in our custom colors. (They’re still not here but should be arriving later this week.) I have no idea what the eff to do with them, but they are pretty and I desired them. Add to cart.

And then, a few days ago, my coworker sent me a coupon code for J. Crew. So I bought this floral sash, which is now sold out. Maybe I’ll wear it over my dress. But since I don’t have a dress yet, who knows if it’ll even go? It certainly doesn’t go with the rest of the bright colors we’re using, but whatevs. It was on sale, and with the coupon code I just HAD to buy it. Add to cart.

And then, after having my centerpiece idea, I went on Etsy and bought a crap ton of fabric. So pretty. So bright and cheerful. Add to cart.

And then I started thinking about getting a vintage trunk to use as a card box. So I found one on eBay. It’s old as hell, which means it’s raggedy as hell, but it’s also super cool. I figured that I’d refinish it. What? I’ve never refinished a damned thing in my life? Whatever. Add to cart. (Or, rather, bid now.)

So, OK. Almost everything I got was a good deal, or on sale, or both. But I really need to learn how to say no when that voice whispers “buy it buy it buy it” in my ear.

Do you have a hard time resisting online shopping? How do you manage to control yourself when the temptation is right there?

What I do is wait a day or two and then decide. If you’ve forgotten about it in a day or two, it really isn’t meant to be yours.

I so totally relate. But I’ve found that unless you have a set look, and “final answer” about the look and feel of your wedding, you will end up not using most of the early stuff you buy.

I have a few million pages of favourites on Etsy. I find clicking the ‘heart’ button almost as satisfying as ‘add to cart’.

I spent SO much money on Etsy for my wedding. It was well worth it!

Those coupon codes are a total double edged sword! Yeah, they give me a deal, but they make me buy things I wouldn’t in the first place! And the wedding makes it ever harder, because off handed think, “oh yeah. . . this? its fro the wedding - I can totally buy it!”

I totally feel you here, sloth :)

The first comment in your post made me laugh out loud; for the simple fact, Miss Coffee hates old stuff and loves shopping! The problem is she considers the expiration date on all items… 2 weeks from date of purchase. “Everything is old”!?!?

This is her general perception on shopping, so now that we are into our wedding planning process, I’m beginning to forsee the future… and the future looks like an apartment filled to the brim with wedding items!!!

I have no advice for you Miss Sloth… sorry to say :( To be honest, as a man… I’m here in hopes I’ll learn a thing or two. Become a better man thorugh our wedding planning.

I LOVE THE TRUNK!! I would have grabbed it to. :)

I used to have this problem but now I don’t have the money I used to so I really have to plan and save for my purchases.

I am right there with you. I just went on a major wedding shopping spree! Our wedding is about 8 months away, but I want to get as much done as possible as early as possible so I feel ok about buying all this stuff. I’m trying not to go too crazy though!

*sheepishly raises hand* Serious impulse buyer here! Especially when it comes to the wedding. I see something, think “Ooh! Pretty/shiny/cute!,” and buy it. Only later, when showing/trying to justify it to FI, am I like, “Hmm…was this REALLY necessary?” Oh well.

Those are definitely great buys, totally justifiable in my mind!

Since my response is “I don’t see what the problem is” maybe we shouldn’t be allowed to talk to each other. Our FI’s will not like it. BUT! everything you got is adorable and a steal. How can you resist a deal? I think this was all very logically purchased. Except maybe the sash. I’ll take it off your hands for you, since I’m just that kind of girl.

Seriously! I am right there with you with the wedding NINE months away!!!

now I’m trying to think - can I use it after the wedding, and if I can’t, then save the purchase for later!

I feel ya. Internet shopping is like chocolate for me when I’m stressed. Bad day at work? New formal dress. Fight with the bf? beauty supplies. Wedding trouble? Definitely new shoes. It’s an addiction.

haha, I think the only thing that keeps me from “add to cart” fever. . . my near empty bank account. Darn it!! Trust me, I have 9 million things added to my “favorites” on etsy that I hope to be able to buy before the wedding. I hear ya sister!
