Our Silhouettes in Action

October 8th, 2010 @ 4:26 pm by Mrs. Knitting

As you may remember from this post, I was going to attempt to recreate a guestposter I had found on Martha, so that it would be more in keeping with our tastes and could incorporate the lovely silhouettes Mr. Knitting made for me.

Here’s what I came up with:

Our Silhouettes in Action : wedding guestbook toronto Guestbo

I “designed” this using a few of my favourite web resources. The font is my new favourite typewriter font from Dafont. The sprig of holly is from The Graphics Fairy, and the flourish is from Project Wedding. Finding websites with images like these has been essential to my DIY process.

I’m pretty happy with it but it’s not 100% finished. When putting this together I copied Martha’s wording for simplicity, but the line “Our cherished friends and family” doesn’t really suit us. We don’t really say things like that (read: it’s too sappy) and I’ve been trying to come up with alternatives. I liked the idea of writing “Our Favourite People”, but since some of my favourite people are not going to be able to attend our wedding that doesn’t work. If you have any suggestions for wording (or feedback in general for the poster) it would be much appreciated.

Has anyone else tried a guestposter?

What a great project! We have a guest book being made by a dear friend or else I might have stolen your idea. Maybe as simple something simple as “Our guests: or “Those who shared our day:”

I like it, but I might flip the silhouettes (or the names), so that your silhouettes is over your name, and his over his name.

As for wording, “Friends and Family” would be fine, or “Guests”, or you could leave it blank; I don’t think anything is necessary there.

A lot of the wedding scrolls I’ve seen online just say simply “witnessed by.” Not sure if that’s what you’re going for though.

I really like it! It’s really simple & easy to store/frame/scrapbook for future reference.

Also, this might be me being fussy, but the names & silhouettes are kind of reversed - not sure if that was intended, or if you wanted to swap to match the name/image? Feel free to ignore. :D

Also, Mr Knitting - is he Polish? I noticed his name & it’s the same as one of our groomsman!

This is a great idea. I love the idea of “Friends and Family” or “Honored Guests”.

I really love the idea of a guest poster. Kiiiinda wish we had thought of it. I especially love this with the silhouettes (esp because, didn’t Mr. K draw them himself?).
