Mrs. Jaguar's Picture
Mrs. Jaguar, Sydney Age and Occupation: 27, Primary School Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, IT Consultant Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Curzon Hall About Me: I'm an Australian girl who is a self-proclaimed nerd, loves all things stationery and would be lost without books, music and the internet. Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! We currently live in Sydney, Australia with our adorable cat who thinks he's a person. We're a couple who likes to multi-task: we've been planning a wedding abroad, a permanent move from London to Sydney, and preparing to build our own home all at the same time. Travelling makes me giddy...as does Mr. Jaguar, of course!
About Mrs. Jaguar

Um, Adorable?

October 8th, 2010 @ 2:31 pm by Mrs. Jaguar

I have a giant folder saved with dozens of pictures, as well as hundreds of bookmarked websites in all of my browsers that help me to keep track of things I love. Sometimes I’ll revisit them all at a later date and either a) fall in love with them as inspiration all over again, or b) wonder what on earth I was thinking when I originally saved them.

Most of the time though, they leave me wishing we had a bigger budget so that I could blow it all on all sorts of pretties. I’ve had these babies in my inspiration folder for a while now—yep, the very same ones I noticed Miss Lioness blogged about a few weeks ago:

These ones are perfect for us.

Wouldn’t they look just amazing on an all-white table setting?

Or these oh-so-adorable trees with matching bird place cards:

I’m obsessed with birds!

Or for an eco-friendly idea, little herb pots that double as wedding favours:

I’m dying from the sweetness. Imagine how nice they’d smell?

All of these ideas are so cute and clever, but I just can’t justify spending much money on place card holders for 120 guests. I’m also wondering if they would look out of place at our reception, since it’s being held indoors and is a semi-formal event, do these greener options look too outdoorsy and relaxed?

Ah, inspiration, I love you and all, but you make me want to throw seven different weddings just so that I can use all of my mismatched style ideas!

I’m having the same dilemma. Part of me wishes we were going with a back yard wedding so that the informal woodsy stuff I like would be better suited. I’m trying to blend the styles by using a lot of kraft paper for favor boxes and invitation envelopes.

You might be able to do something similar on a budget — possibly with wheatgrass or something you could grow yourself. I’ve seen very nice looking succulents selling for less than $1 each.

@Florin: Such a clever idea with the wheatgrass. I worked at a juice bar all through uni & just the thought of chugging one of those down brings back memories! {They would look sweet in mini pots though!}

GIRLS!!! Don’t worry too much about it! Bring the outdoors in! Totally appreciating the herb idea, Miss Jag. The only trick for me is keeping the herbs small all the way until October for my wedding.

I agree on wanting to throw a bunch of weddings to incorporate all of the good inspiration out there!

Aaaagh, stupid budget. I love your ideas, though. I think you can bring them into a semi-formal (or formal) space if you put them in a cleaner looking pot, and depending on what else you include for decor. And if they double as favors, maybe you can fit them into your budget?! Don’t rule them out yet ;)

@Darice: Bringing the outdoors in.. I love it when you put it that way. Thanks!

@Miss Elephant: Right? Although.. more than one wedding? My brain might explode. :)

@ms.moonlight: Very true, Ms Moonlight! I do like two birds with one stone.. favours/place cards combined do seem budget-friendly.. hee.

I think the outdoorsy elements in a formal setting can look very elegant, and sort of fairytale enchanted forest, in the best way. I think it will make your tables and place setting look richer, and save money to do the combo place card/favor. A win/win.

I actually used these at my wedding a couple weeks ago! They looked great with our asian/rustic/whimisical look. To save money, we just bought one per table and used them as table number holders. Or you can use them as sign holders (program sign, guest book sign, buffet menu cards etc.) They’re also sold at Michael’s, which occasionally has 15%-25% off total purchase coupons through their email list. Regular price there (in California) is about 1.50 each.

Ah, I should be more specific. By “these” I mean the topiary place card holders…

@almo: Clever idea re: using them as sign holders & not individual place cards.. I would love to see your wedding pictures featuring them!

Do you think we could all get away with throwing ridiculously expensive anniversary parties to incorporate all the ideas we’ve had to drop along the way? Ok, maybe I’m dreaming. My fiancee would NEVER go fall for it.

I’ve finally cut myself off from wedding inspiration. Or I thought I had until I read your post. :)

LOVE those little topiaries! Do you think you can make some on your own, using green craft poms for the tree part?
