Here were the contenders from of my very successful David’s Bridal trip:
I last left you hanging on which one I ultimately decided on.
The trumpet gown was the shape I was going for all along. It’s classic and gorgeous. The empire waist ball gown is romantic, beautiful, and has a very special unique charm. Both gowns fit like a glove and complemented my shape.
I thought about it over lunch with my girls, my consultant who happens to be a BFF, Mr. G and Mama Glasses. I flipped through the (many) pictures my girls took on my camera. In the end, it had to be….
This one. It reminded everyone of a tulip - perfect for a garden wedding! And it’s unique. The DB I went to is a tester store, meaning this dress isn’t in catalogs and no other store has it yet. The trumpet gown was classic, but the gown I chose is special. I wanted to look back at wedding photos and think of my dress as just that!
After a hefty lunch, I tried on the gown again just to be sure and…and…it didn’t fit! It took three girls to zip me up. I FREAKED. My BFF consultant ensured me it was because I wasn’t wearing my undergarments properly and that on the day we’d be careful in dressing me. We wrapped it up and took it to the DBs closer to my house to pin it for alterations. My friends dressed me and it didn’t fit there, either. While the lady was pining me I silently cried in my head. Underarm and boob fat spilled over the top of the dress and I self-consciously covered myself with my arms. I couldn’t breathe. I dangerously thought I would have to diet hard core until the wedding and wouldn’t be able to eat the day of. For the first time since I’ve lost 20 pounds I felt like a cow.
After we were done pinning, the alterations lady took me to a dressing room and showed me how to put on my undergarments properly; the corset with built in bra was only a quarter bra so it wasn’t meant to go cover my bust area entirely, the petticoat was supposed to go over the corset, the Spanx were an unnecessary layer of fabric. Suddenly my boob muffin top disappeared! The dress still felt a little snug but the lady told me that after the wedding dinner, if I wanted to take off the corset the dress would be fine without it.
To be honest, I’m still a little worried. Nasty thoughts of starving myself pop up every now and then. I’ll have to be careful not to eat salty foods the week leading up so that I don’t bloat but I should be eating more fruits and vegetables anyway. America has been terrible for eating healthy! It was much easier to eat smaller portions and less greasy food in Japan. I’ll need my friends and Mr. G to help keep me grounded and make sure I don’t develop a crazy, bride-induced stupid diet.
I never thought I’d be so worked up over a dress. I hate being away from it while it’s being altered though—I want to look at it and touch it all the time. I want to walk around the house in it and be assured that it does, in fact, fit and is perfect for me. I’m such a freak!
IDK…for some reason I felt like I could fly in it?
