Sister-In-Law Meerkat and Mama-In-Law Meerkat threw me my very first bridal shower a few weeks ago. Knowing my love of flip flops (as you will see if you look at my feet in the photos below), they threw a beach and flip flop-themed shower for me.
They set up tables outside with sand and seashells as the centerpieces. Each seat had a bucket with a flip flop shaped box full of Dove chocolates and Bath & Body works lotion and hand sanitizer. (I have a little bit of an addiction to Bath & Body works. *grin*)
Mama-In-Law Meerkat had an awesome menu, too. She had some picnic-style food to represent our engagement, some traditional Mexican food to represent the wedding, and some Italian food to represent our honeymoon. The food was awesome but we forgot to take pictures before chowing down. Fail blogger bride, I know. Sorry ladies.
But we did remember to take pictures of the cake:
I fell in love with the Alice in Wonderland style topsy-turvy cakes you see on shows like cake boss. So Mama-In-Law Meerkat and Sister-In-Law Meerkat worked their tails off to make me my dream cake. The picture above doesn’t do the cake justice. It. Was. Awesome! Unfortunetly when we took this picture the layers had started to slide off each other because of the heat and humidity.
After we ate it was time to open presents. Seriously, my faces in these photos say it all:
Super excited about the ice cream maker!
Everyone was so sweet and got us a ton of stuff for the kitchen to replace our old mismatched college kitchen wares. I felt so loved and welcomed by Mr. Meerkat’s family. And Mama-In-Law Meerkat completed the opening of the presents by giving me my very own flip flop rug for our front door:
Next, Sister-In-Law Meerkat had some games planned but our attention got diverted by some unexpected entertainment:
These two adorable little ones are Mr. Meerkat’s cousins. They kept us all so entertained that we totally forgot about the games.
And that is how my first shower went down. Originally I would have said it didn’t matter if we had a shower for each side of the family, but it made me feel like a part of Mr. Meerkat’s family. I am so glad I had the chance to spend the time with them.
Did your fiance’s family throw you a shower? If so, how was it different from your family’s shower?
