Mrs. Lioness, Atlanta Age and Occupation: 25, Physical Therapist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Attorney Engagement Date: August 29, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Anthony’s Fine Dining About Me: I’m a Southern girl with New England roots. I say "wicked" and "y’all" in the same sentence and I like to drink sweet tea with my lobster. Mr. Lion and I are both former Floridians now living in Atlanta, which fortunately is still SEC country...Go Gators! We both love baseball, coffee, traveling, cooking, and playing Words with Friends with each other on our iPhones all day long. I’m very passionate about the things and the people I love, and I tend to plan things with all of my heart...our wedding, of course, is no different! Oh, and also Mr. Lion is a first generation American of Cuban descent. I may look more like Lucy than Ricky, but I’m doing my best to incorporate some Latin elements into our vintage-garden-Southern wedding!
About Mrs. Lioness

Inviting the VIPs

October 11th, 2010 @ 10:39 am by Mrs. Lioness

Of course, all of our wedding guests are VIPs! But the people I’m talking about here are the ones who don’t fall under the “family,” “friend,” “coworker,” or “strange neighbor” categories. I’m talking about the people who are invited but who are not exactly expected to come. Mrs. Lemon previously discussed inviting the President, among others, and we decided to do the same.

The White House apparently has a separate greetings office that deals exclusively with invitations and announcements. If you send your wedding invitation to this office, you may receive a personal greeting from the president. I don’t believe it’s guaranteed, but it’s certainly worth a shot!

So why is an April bride blogging about this in October? Well, upon further research, it seemed that brides who successfully received a White House greeting sent their invitations approximately six months prior to their wedding date. Sister Lioness designed our invitations and we’re printing them ourselves. We were putting off the daunting task of printing until just before sending them out in January, but we figured we could assemble some a bit early.

I wish I could show y’all the whole thing because I’m so psyched about Sister Lioness’ fab design, but we gotta let the guests see them first. ‘Til then, enjoy these gray envelopes with wrap around labels!

As you can see, we chose to “invite” four households: the President and First Lady, the Pope (you may recall that Mr. Lion is Catholic), and Mickey and Minnie. Okay, that’s really three households…but we sent one to Disney World and one to Disneyland. We figured this would help increase our chances of getting a response! Here are the addresses in case you’re interested:

The Honorable and Mrs. Barack Obama

The White House, Greetings Office, Room 39

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW

Washington, District of Columbia

20502

Pope Benedictus XVI

Prefettura della Casa Pontifica

00210 Citta del Vaticano

Italia

Mickey & Minnie Mouse

The Magic Kingdom

1675 North Buena Vista Drive

Lake Buena Vista, Florida

32830

Mickey & Minnie Mouse

The Walt Disney Company

500 South Buena Vista Street

Burbank, California

91521

I’ll definitely keep y’all posted if and when the responses come in! I considered adding one more person to the list, but I wasn’t sure Mr. Lion would approve…

Is it wrong that I was the most excited that you could send one to Mickey Mouse? ;)

We sent one to the White House about a month before the wedding. When we got back from our honeymoon, there was a card in our mailbox from them!

We sent our invite to the Obamas about 6 weeks prior to our wedding date and received our card 2 weeks ago! I might be lame, but I think it’s really cool and show everyone who comes over the card. :) I didn’t know about Mickey and Minnie though — that’s so cute!

We sent ours to the White House 6 weeks ago, and got it back last week. So. freakin. cool. I was grossly giddy over it. Ha ha.

Sorry - by “it” I mean we got a card blessing our marriage. They didn’t send the invitation back. The Obamas are cooler than that.

I actually did just send an invite to Taylor Swift. I feel a little like a screaming teenage girl but I like her and her music. 2 of her songs will be in the ceremony. I felt a little embarrassed but oh well. I wouldn’t even care if she stole my spotlight. Ha ha

I never knew about the 6 month mark getting a better response, I better get on it! I really want to send one to Disney since that is where we went after we got engaged. Thanks for the addresses!

We invited the President about 8 weeks prior to our wedding, and got a response within two weeks. Maybe we got them at a lull? Who knows. :)

So fun! I’d invite Elvis, not a fake one, ‘cuz it seems like he’d be bad ass at a wedding. Love your invites already!

Can’t wait to see your invites!

It’s good you sent them to both Disneys. . . I heard you’ll get a response from California from Mickey, but Cinderella often answers the invites sent to Florida.
