Mrs. Turtle, Central California Age and Occupation: 21, Art Student/Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 22, English Student Engagement Date: August 16, 2008 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Mr. Turtle's Grandparents' backyard, Arroyo Grande, CA About Me: I am a California girl who loves the beach and the mountains, but is quite satisfied living right in the middle where I can enjoy the best of both worlds. I am happiest when traveling to faraway places, wandering through museums, watching old movies, or baking up a storm. Mr. Turtle and I are high school sweethearts and fellow book nerds who both drive Mini Coopers and are most likely to be found browsing in antique stores. We're having so much fun planning our European garden wedding with a vintage twist and can't wait to share more of life's adventures together!

So Happy Together: Reception Details

So Happy Together: Reception Details : wedding central ca pictures pro pics recap 14blog11 Photobucket

I have a ridiculous amount of photos that I love from our reception. And as much as I love the photos of our guests, I’ve decided to start with the details. I believe that the “details,” meaning the linens, the flowers, and all of the little projects that I poured my heart and soul into during our engagement, are truly the foundation of the event. I had the most wonderful time at our wedding, as did our family and friends; and the warmth of the love that we experienced on that July day will forever fill my heart with joy. But nothing delights a bride like seeing all of her wedding details finally come together.

All of the stressful, late nights spent in frustration over a stupid printer…the tears shed over seemingly infinitesimal decisions…suddenly, on your wedding day, they all feel worth it! Anyone can pay a wedding planner big money and have a fabulous looking wedding. But when you handcraft aspects of your wedding yourself, and bond over working on them with those closest to you, things that once seemed shallow take on a deeper meaning. I believe that our guests sensed the thoughtful, extremely personal nature of our wedding, and that made the day so much more memorable for them. When I look back on these pictures, I feel so proud of what we and our little wedding team put together. Brides-to-be, I hope you take this as inspiration to keep trekking along in your wedding planning, even if you’re feeling a little frustrated or disillusioned. It’s all worth it, I promise! :)

Left: Our seating chart - I designed it to coordinate with our invitation suite, using InDesign, and had it made into a large print late one night, thanks to the wonderful folks at Kinko’s. My mom and I found the frame at Michaels and the easel at Home Goods.

Right: One of our reception tables - Maybe I should explain now, none of these pictures contain chairs because they were taken before the chairs were moved from the ceremony area to the tables.

Right: Our menus - I designed these in Illustrator and printed them onto the same shimmer paper from our envelope liners on my home printer. My mom clipped the corners, and there you have our menus! Voila!

Left: Our place cards - I was inspired by similar designs I’d seen around the wedding blogosphere. We purchased a bunch of dark chocolate Ferrero Rocher truffles at Target. I designed them in Illustrator, and my mom helped assemble them, using toothpicks and skinny pink ribbon.

So there you have it - the foundation of our reception! Next post: how about we add some guests…and some chairs? What is your favorite detail that you’ve created for your wedding?

In case you missed out on any of my earlier recap posts:

And once again, all of the beautiful photos were taken by our wonderful photographer, Chloe Murdoch, with Mike Larson Inc. Other vendors featured in this post are Cover Ups, who was responsible for all of the linens and tent frame draping, and Panacea Event Floral Design, who was responsible for our flowers.

Thank you for the inspiration! I was just hitting the “Oh, is anyone actually going to notice that I’m making (insert any one of a gazillion details here) by hand?” Your photos are proof that they will!
