Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NY Age and Occupation: 25, Research Technician Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the Law Engagement Date: June 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Heron Hill Winery About Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).

Making “Dilemmonade”: Part I

October 11th, 2010 @ 6:24 pm by Mrs. Locket

Truth be told our wedding week was not without a dilemma or two (or three or four), but we managed to hold our chins up and truck on through. Because wedding planning isn’t always about the good I want to share some of the bad and how a bad thing can turn into something wonderful. So, here are some of our dilemmas and how we conquered them with dignity.

The Bad: My back-up hairdresser never got back to me.

Boy oh boy was I stressed…I had a week and a half to go before the wedding and had no plan.

The Good: Mr. L is awesome and saved the day.

He knew I was stressing and put in the effort at his pre-wedding haircut appointment. He was able to talk the salon manager into stepping in with such short notice and was even able to convince her to squeeze in a trial.

The trial results put me at ease:

And, on the night of the wedding my hair was still in place during our last dance:

The Bad: We couldn’t get in touch with our flower people.

After a few months of corresponding back and forth we had planned to purchase 2 buckets of mixed flowers from Plenty of Posies at $70/ bucket (a steal by all means). Unfortunately, P.o.P are hard to get in touch with unless you meet them at the weekly farmer’s market (a hard thing to do when every weekend morning has been filled with something wedding for the past 2 months). Needless to say, nerves were flying high when I hadn’t heard back from them and couldn’t get someone on the phone during the week before the wedding.

The Good: Over the past year I’ve purchased many odds and ends (aka fakies).

Since, I’ve become engaged I’ve stocked up at every Michaels post seasonal sale; whenever I saw something that I liked and that fit into our random scheme of things I snatched it up and at a good price, to boot! We ended up saving $140 and were able to use all my impulse buys for our centerpieces. The second best part was that we were able to set this up a couple of days beforehand, eliminating some wedding day stress.

And, here they are all packed up:

The Bad: Mr. L broke my Canon Rebel

He bought a new CF card to use on our honeymoon and was eager to put the SD card in and could not wait for me to show it to him. Well, manly man Locket kept jamming it in there and broke pins on the card reader, rendering my camera/wedding gift useless.

The Good: I cried for 30 minutes.

Okay, I know crying for 30 minutes doesn’t seem good, but 1) I think I needed it as a release and 2) my trial makeup lasted all the way through it, even my false lashes! Mr. L redeemed himself by borrowing a friend’s dSLR for the trip even though ours is still out of commission and may not make a return, since repair costs are ridiculous.

Believe it or not, our dilemmas don’t end there. We have a few more in store to share with you in Making “Dilemmonade”: Part II. Then, I promise recaps are en route!

OMG your hair is gorgeous! Did you use ALL fake flowers? ‘Cuz that’s completely ridiculous that you couldn’t hear back from your flower vendor. My vendors are really hard to get a hold of (we are JUST meeting the photographer tomorrow and we’ve got a little over 2 weeks). Sorry about your camera :( I would cry too! Sounds like you stayed pretty strong!

I love this thread title! . . . except for the fact that it meant you had extra stress during your wedding! That being said, bless your heart and ((hugs)) for the unpredictableness of wedding *planning* . . . my experience has been that wedding planning is the biggest oxymoron of all time!

You (and your hair) held up like a champ and looked beautiful!

I’m proud of your Dilemmonade. Every person needs to learn how to make it and you really did a great job during a stressful time.

Way to go Mr. Locket! Your hair looks great and so do the center pieces. I would never have thought those were your back ups. I’m glad dilemonade was made out of some serious lemons.

I’m so glad you were able to get over or find fixes for most of the things that went wrong! But I’m sad about your camera :(

Thanks for the kind words everyone! @Miss Glasses: Yuppers! (no flowers were harmed in the making of this wedding lol!) I don’t necessarily blame the flower people for the last minute communication issues…it’s clear that they are tough to get a hold of and I should have put forth more of an effort (and prob could have), but I didn’t have the time and since they didn’t get back to me I decided to figure things out on my own. Since we were buying buckets of flowers vs. having them do them I suppose we weren’t top priority.

[...] When we last left off I shared with you a few of my wedding week woes and how we managed to get through them. Unfortunately, they weren’t the last of issues we ran into. Some were easy enough to take care of while others took a lot more patience and were more of a struggle. [...]
