Hi, bees!

It’s me again…and yes, I have another vintage postcard. :)

And this cutie is especially meaningful…and will be a VIP in the Ostrich wedding.

But why?

Two words: color palette!

In true Ostrich form, Mr. O and I have approached the topic of “wedding colors” with a different POV than usual. And part of this unique approach can also be traced to my inspiring world of fashion. Why choose one or two hues when you could create a marvelous multi-colored celebration?

One day, as I was perusing all things Etsy, I stumbled upon this sweet tropical sunset postcard and was instantly in love. The brilliant coral pink, washed peach, dreamy lavender, pale aquamarine, and splash of blush pink—these colors, when isolated, are a little softer than my taste, but together they make a dazzling tropical sunset! I think having a “story” of colors gives us more creativity and freedom with our DIY decor and will be more fun for our guests to experience. :) Plus, our seaside wedding will be at sunset, which makes this postcard doubly special!

So when friends, our wedding planner, and other curious souls ask us what our “colors” are, we smile and simply reply, “sunset colors!”

This summer I worked a wedding that was pinks and oranges and corals on a backdrop of neutral tans and taupes and ivory and white. Gorgeous!! The sunset colors are so pretty!

My answer is always “peacock feather colors.” Cuz we’re pulling colors that you find on a peacock feather - brown, navy blue, and apple green, with pops of turquoise here and there.

I have a palette, not colors, as well. I’m hoping that we can create a feel and a mood, not just two colors for decorations. I’m hoping the outcome is thoughtful and well designed, not confused. We’ll see.

Beautiful color choices. I always just answered rainbow, or CMYK.

I’m having a winter wedding and originally was feeling constricted to reds or light silvery blue…thank goodness for inspiration boards I discovered a winter palette of orchid, teal, slate and forest green. I’m loving that I can be non-traditional!!!

I love those colors, and I like how “sunset colors” is definitely something that anyone could understand.

@Mrs. Scissors: CMYK - LOL - I love it!

As someone who LOVES LOVES LOVES to play with colors, I really appreciate this post!

I am also having a sunset wedding (in Florida) - in December - and I’m going with tropical colors of orange, green, turquoise, plus some touches of yellow and white, and even a little purple and pink have creeped in (minimally - I’ve tried hard to avoid pink).

One thing I have done intentionally to add “depth” is to use varying shades of orange and green (the two most prominent colors), from apricot to tangerine to pumpkin, and from lime to grass to avocado. In some places I threw in a bit of yellow, white and/or other light & bright colors so it wouldn’t look too matchy-matchy.

Yay for colors, and lots of them!

We did the same thing! My fiance said he wanted the colors of the sunset so we are doing aqua and peach. :) It’s quite stunning!

We are having sunset colours too! Except we’re going for the more vibrant pinks, oranges and golds. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Sunsets are gorgeous so I can see where you can draw inspiration from that!
