The Best Marriage Advice Ever!

The Best Marriage Advice Ever! : wedding emotional providence Alfred

Grand gesture that didn’t quite pan out for the couple…

One day at work, sitting in the windowless hell that I used to call my cubicle, my friend (CW) told me that it was her 39th wedding anniversary. She looked a little too young to have been married 39 years so I inquired further. Hers is one of the sweetest love stories I’ve ever heard.

CW was visiting her sister in Florida when she turned 18—three days before Christmas. She woke up to find that her boyfriend had driven all the way down to Florida from New England overnight because he missed her and wanted to propose. There was no engagement ring; just a few kind words and a grand gesture. They decided to get married the next day. She asked her sister if they could borrow her wedding bands and drove up to Georgia to get married. There was no dancing, cake, dress or wedding bands; just two crazy kids madly in love and willing to make a go at it.

She is full of wisdom and kindness. So after I became engaged she would bestow little jewels of wisdom on me that I will always cherish. She is constantly reminding me what is indeed important. However, the best advice she has given me is in regards to the success of her own marriage.

Some days you think he is the greatest man in the entire world. You look at him in awe and ask yourself how you ended up with such a wonderful person. And some days, you want to kill him. As long as you can look forward to the good days, the bad will pass.

What is some of the best advice you’ve ever received?

Wonderful advice. My boss gave me the best advice. She said to always remember that most things don’t matter and are not worth an argument.

I’m not a huge pop-culture fan, or even a huge Brad Pitt fan, but I once read something he said about his relationship with Angelina Jolie that really struck a chord. I don’t recall the exact quote, but it was something along the lines of:

“Once you really commit to spending the rest of your life with someone, it seems silly to waste any time being angry or upset about the little stuff.”

Best advice “hold on tightly (with your heart) to what you hold dear,” and “it will all come out in the wash (everyday aggravations), and if not, if will come out in the ironing.”

Great advice!! Some days can seem the worst but as long as you have the love of your life to get through those days together and you do get through them together you know every minute with them is worth all the hard work, sweat, and tears.

Just always be honest.

@ NotYourTypicalBride…thats funny coming from Brad Pitt seeing that he didnt feel that way about his marriage with Jennifer Aniston! I like to follow celeb gossip once in a while…who got married, who had a baby..stuff like that…cant stand the other gossip like the likes of Paris Hilton, Lohan, and such. But I just cant stand Brad Pitt and Angelina…its great they are adopting kids, helping the world, make great movies…but dont like them and I dont like that he cheated and that Angelina admitted to it in a magazine…saying they cant wait to tell their kids they met on a movie set…when he was still married!
