Us Meerkats are just a couple fun lovin’ geeks from Michigan. We love anything having to do with movies, books, video games or technology and we hold a special place in our hearts for our two very spoiled shih-tzus, Wicket and Bravo. We also LOVE to travel. We love it so much it only took us 12 hours after we got engaged to decide to have a destination wedding. We are working our little Meerkat tails off planning a rustic-chic, travel themed destination wedding in the Riviera Maya with a semi-formal, vintage-turned-modern, outdoor at home reception back here in Michigan.
About Mrs. Meerkat

Preface: Let me start by saying it took MONTHS to find my dress. I ended up trying on over 100 wedding dresses in 5 different cities in 8 different dress shops. I am not a picky person when it comes to clothes (a faded t-shirt and a pair of jeans are my norm) but I had a very hard time finding a dress that was “me.”

And 100 Dresses Later, I Found The One! : wedding riviera maya wedding dress Mrmdres MrMDres

Our dress shopping adventure to Becker’s Bridal started out just like all the other prior trips. Our moms and my bridesmaids were excited and happily talking while I was flipping through the little pamphlet of dress examples I had made; adding extra notes about each dress. (Yea you can start to feel sorry for the poor saleslady. I really did go in with a fully annotated pamphlet of dresses to give her.)

When we arrived I gave poor Laura, our sales person, the pamphlet. She looked it over, told me to give her just a few minutes and she would be back. She made three different trips and brought out about 12 dresses. To my surprise I liked not just one but three of them! Until this shopping trip I had not found a single dress that I even kind of liked. Enough of my blabbering on, because I know your dying to see the pictures. *grin*

Dress #1: Allure 8465

And 100 Dresses Later, I Found The One! : wedding riviera maya wedding dress Allure82 Allure8

My first impression was ’I can’t believe it looks like the photo on the website!’ A lot of the dresses I tried on looked nothing like pictures from their website. The dress was made of gorgeous material but it was just too heavy. And once a couple layers of sand got bunched under the train it would only get heavier.

Dress #2: Maggie Sottero - Suzanne

And 100 Dresses Later, I Found The One! : wedding riviera maya wedding dress Suzanne2 suzanne

Minus the fact that it was three sizes too big I just loved the way it looked. The material shimmered and it was so soft! The coloring was much darker than the website showed it to be and that is really the only thing that kept me from getting the dress.

Dress #3 (MY DRESS!!): Sottero & Midgley - RSM1036

And 100 Dresses Later, I Found The One! : wedding riviera maya wedding dress Rsm10362 RSM1036

Once again the dress was about three sizes too big but even with the extra length I was still rockin’ it! The dress, despite the extra material, was lightweight and easy to move around in. When I saw myself in the mirror I started jumping up and down like a little kid. I just knew it was the one. And let me tell you that I was not the only one excited. Look at Mama-In-Law Meerkat in the top left corner of this photo:

Yes ladies, she really was dancing around she was so excited. When I put it on everyone knew that was my dress.

So I have to ask, how many dresses did you try on before you found THE ONE? Did you hit the triple digits too?

I didn’t hit the triple digits, no. :> I think I tried on maybe 30-40? I’m totally guessing on that. I know what you mean about the weight of a dress, though. I tried one on that looks similar to that first one, and it was heavy!

Your dress is gorgeous. :) I have a Maggie dress, too, though not the Sottero & Midgley line.

congratulations on your dress, you look lovely in it! Btw, how was your experience at Becker’s? I’ve been thinking about going there for my dress and wondered how it went.

The people at Becker’s were really nice. My dress arrived Monday and even when I went to pick it up they were great.

One tip I have read though is don’t have the alterations done there. There were some negative comments with the alterations department and they told me when I was there picking up my dress they were downsizing the alterations department.

I haven’t found “the one” yet, but I can tell you your dress is the Maggie a friend of mine bought and her first dance pictures just rocked because of the lace detail and bit of sparkle reflecting the soft lighting. You’re going to look amazing!

I love that dress! You look AMAZING in it! The other two were pretty, but wow, you just *pop* in that dress! Don’t know if that even makes sense - but wow, you look great! Congrats!

@Miss Twigs: I am so glad to hear that about the light! We are doing a trash the dress in the water and I am hoping for that same effect. :D

I probably hit the triple digits… or came close enough. (Really don’t want to count because then I’ll know.) Love the horizontal banding on your gown - very different.

@Mrs. Sewing: LOL I never noticed that! You can choose to lace it up either way. When I tried it on Monday they did top to bottom.

Hmmm now I have to figure out which way I like it. ;)

Soooo pretty, Meerkat! Excellent choice! I bought the first one I tried on…only after trying on about 45 other dresses, buy another dress, panicking because I actually liked the first one better, cancelling the 2nd dress, and buying the 1st one. Silly girl.
