I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).

A Late Night Sugar High

October 13th, 2010 @ 6:34 pm by Mrs. Hippo

I’ve already shared our reception food with you, but we haven’t yet talked dessert. Oh yes, I’ve saved the best for last! While we will most certainly be serving cake, I thought it would be fun to serve another treat late in the evening after guests have had plenty of time to get their dance and drink on. Aren’t late night, slightly inebriated snacks the best??!?

While randomly searching who knows what on the internet, I happened across The Snack Box, a Dallas area vendor that has a unique offering, and once I found it, I couldn’t get it out of my head.

Yep. Donuts. Fresh, served hot, cinnamon-sugary mini donut deliciousness. Ummm…I totally want to be at our wedding now!

Our plan is to serve mini donuts to guests during the final 30-45 minutes of our reception. Even though our reception venue has in-house catering, they were happy to let me bring in a separate vendor for this unique, late night sugary confection, and I couldn’t be more excited about it. The Snack Box will set-up and staff their donut machine, which can make about 1,200 mini donuts in an hour. While they have several toppings that guests can choose from to pour on the donuts (caramel, chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, sprinkles), we’ve decided to go with their most popular flavor, cinnamon & sugar. Just keeping to the one flavor will make the service go super quick so that hopefully lines won’t form.

We weren’t planning on giving out favors, but since I’m in love with this donut idea, we’ve decided to make special bags for the donuts to go in with a thank you message, making the late night sugar high our “favor.” Oh yes…just another DIY project to add to the list.

Are you doing any late night, post wedding cake snacks?

I was planning on a dessert buffet with special tags/boxes to use as favors. To be served maybe 30mins before the end of the reception. But wow, a donut machine right there, with all those lovely smells wafting up… argh, I am already salivating :)

We did s’mores out at the fire pit. A rather remarkable challenge for the photographer :)
