As I mentioned in my last post, our rehearsal dinner could have very easily been a wedding reception! Maybe this explains why I was so gosh darn exhausted after having 3 DIY events in one weekend. We had 85 guests in attendance, including our wedding party, aunts, uncles, cousins, significant others, nieces, nephews, and out of town guests. I wore an awesome J.Crew Goddess Wedding Dress that was slightly altered.

New Papa in Law gave a sweet opening speech to welcome everyone to the event and to thank everyone for coming. As part of Papa In Law’s speech, he recognized the newly minted PhDs in attendance. He especially made us laugh when he referenced the number of years we had all spent in school combined. It’s a lot! So while I had struggled to decide whether or not we would be announced as Doctors, it ultimately didn’t matter. Our loved ones decided for us. Over and over again all weekend long, our families and friends recognized our many accomplishments including graduating from school.
Even thought it was only our rehearsal dinner, it was really hard to find time to sit down and eat. Several people asked if I had eaten, but it was hard with so many people around whom I wanted to talk to and hang out with. Mr. Hot Wings and I did decide to finally sit down and eat some tacos though. Thank goodness because they were tasty!
We had a speech portion of the evening as well. New Mama Hot Wing had an open mic policy. So anyone who wanted to speak could take their turn at the mic. It was incredibly nice! We had four speakers: Lil’ Bro Hot Wing, Sis in Law, Wingman B, and one OOT guest. Everyone told hilarious and incredibly sweet stories outing Mr Hot Wings’ and my best and worst traits. Each speech was seriously worthy of a wedding speech. We felt so special. I could have sworn they all had them planned ahead of time. We got roasted! I could not have felt more loved this evening than I did!
*I got chocolate rehearsal cake on my dress, but I was having such a good time. It didn’t matter.*
The evening headed towards its close around the fire pit just as it had the night before at our welcome event. People totally gravitate towards sitting in a circle around a fire. If you have a choice, I suggest adding a fire pit to your event, too.
We had a more fabulous-than-expected rehearsal dinner. It was a wonderful time. There are so many moments that I wished we had captured in photos. I think I would have considered having a photographer on site had I realized what a memory-filled evening it was.
