I love to sing and dance, despite the fact that I lack any talent doing either. I somehow manage to be messy and organized at the same time. I like to spend my days road tripping, watching '80s movies, reading true crime books, buying things on sale, sending postcards, playing board games, dining at food trucks, snuggling, and drinking ginger ale. I have a weak spot for all things sweet, especially Mr. Cheetah! I’m a Chicago girl and he’s a Nor Cal boy but we love living in the City of Angels. After 10 years as a couple we are planning a fun-filled semi-destination wedding in Palm Springs. Hope you enjoy the ride!

Color Me Bad(d)

October 15th, 2010 @ 12:29 pm by Ms Cheetah

I’m an artist; I deal with colors all the time.

Which one did you have a crush on?

In fact, color is a hugely important aspect of a lot of my work. So why am I crazy struggling with our wedding palette!?!

A room at The Viceroy

The Viceroy has a very defined color palette of black, white, and yellow. It looks fantastic, and I definitely want to work with it—but I also definitely want to add to it. My first thought was pink. All sorts of pinks look great with the Viceroy palette, and I’ve always pictured myself with a pink bouquet. So I pictured black, white, yellow, soft rose, and bright raspberry. I also wanted a more neutral color to work with, so I threw in gray.

My first color palette. And I like it. But I just can’t commit. Some days I think about throwing out the pinks and putting in orange. Or going citrus on it with orange and lime. But most the time I just think about adding a color to the above palette. Aqua. Coral. Or maybe charcoal.

Here’s a gorgeous wedding with a similar palette to my first idea:

I love this inspiration board with pink, yellow, and aqua. An addition of black and white would add a touch of elegance, I think.

Coral can look great with pinks and yellows, too:

Sometimes I like the more neutral tones of gray:

It’s getting down to the wire for me to pick bridesmaids dresses and start planning the invitations, so I want to have this figured out sooner rather than later. So, hive, which color palette do you like best?

The one with pink, yellow and aqua. (Aqua was one of our colors, and it makes everything look awesome.)

I think the first is very modern/retro Palm Springs. But love the aqua in #2. Hard to decide!!!

I like the pink and aqua. I think it’s a little playful and a little sophisticated at the same time.

Pink and aqua! So pretty. An it seems very Palm Springs to me. Though, I am a New Yorker and really have no clue if that true or not. But it is reallllly pretty.

The pink, yellow, and aqua palette is my favorite :) But I can see why it was so hard to choose, they are all so pretty.

Oh! All three inspiration boards are great!
However, I love first two more.

I would go with #1 if you are planning for the modern & playful feel. And, I would go with #2 if you are planning for romantic, classy feel.

The comparison is almost that of “Vibrant vs Sepia”, both are great :) What do you want or how would you like to think of it.

I’m no help. I definitely see the potential in all of them. Can’t wait to see what you decide and how it all turns out.

I do like the pink/aqua/yellow combination, but to me, it doesn’t go with the Viceroy’s ’40s Hollywood glam style - it seems more vintage-y and whimsical?? And the coral palette isn’t quite right, either - too beachy?

The first sample palette (black/white/pink/yellow) could work, but I don’t love that all the colors are the same intensity, and the black is a bit heavy. It almost looks a little dated to me.

So… I have to say the last one (pink/yellow/gray/silver) is my hands-down favorite. I LOVE the addition of grays, silvers and soft + bright yellows along with the pink. To me, that combination totally goes with the Hollywood glam look of the Viceroy, but with a fresh and modern touch. And you can add SO much visual texture with shades of gray and brushed silver!

Can you tell I’m into this, LOL? Sorry for the long-winded answer, but hey, you asked. :)

I like your original idea. Yellow is a huge wedding trend right now and I am loving it. And I’m just a pink girl, pink so easy and fun to do in weddings. That palette with your original idea is just so fun and unique!
