About Mrs. Giraffe

Twine Time

October 18th, 2010 @ 2:37 pm by Mrs. Giraffe

So I have decided I need to buy baker’s twine for future wedding crafts. What are those future crafts, you ask? Welllll, I honestly have no idea, but I’ve convinced myself that that little tidbit of information is completely irrelevant. Word.

What does that mean? Well, that I have to buy it now, of course, even though I have no idea what I’ll do with it. I might have some sort of idea. I’m dying to use it wrap around our invites all M. Stewart like, but I feel like I can’t make a decision to do that in the future when, currently, I have no idea what the invitations will look like. (Yeah, that’s on the future to-do list).

I found little groups of yards of twine on Etsy for a dollar. I even found 100 yards for $6.95. That seems like a good, deal…right? Well, not exactly. I mean 100 yards sounds like a lot, but what if I need like two feet for each invite? Yeah, not going to happen.

So I did some looking, being the smart (cough—cheap—cough) girl I am.

Pack n Seal has large cones of four-ply cotton baker’s twine. The color options (with white) are blue, red, green, brown, and black. Being the crazy person I am, I couldn’t commit because, although the brown would be perfect, I really wanted blue—and this blue wasn’t the right shade of blue. A cone here costs $12.89 (discount if you buy more than five) and is a whopping 9,072 feet. Wowza.

Moving on, Packaging Superstore offers the same two-pound cones of twine as Pack n Seal (they even have the same photo on the website). They do have it for $12.86, though…and think of everything you could do with those three cents. Don’t spend it all in one place, y’hear?

Bliss Wedding Market has a cuter photo than the other two (because that seriously makes a difference, right?), but the price isn’t nearly as good. They’re offering only 20 yards of twine for $7.99. It’s not that good of a deal, but they do have a red, white, and blue color option that’s kind of adorable.

Then, of course, there’s my old standby, Amazon. You can get a whopping 3,360 yards from Burke Supply for $19.40. Dropping nearly $20 on twine seems a little ridiculous. Well, maybe it’s more ridiculous that I actually considered the idea. Thank goodness it’s only red and white, otherwise another $20 would be out the window.

Divine Twine actually looks pretty popular, and by popular, I mean it seems to get a lot of use on the interwebs.

Each spool is four ply, 100% cotton, and 240 yards in length. Spools are $15 each, which is quite a bit more than the other websites I had looked at (for how much you get).

There is a good reason to go with Divine Twine, though! They have colors available that I hadn’t found anywhere else, like super super cute colors. Need that perfect aqua blue to match your invites, or green apple for your STDs? Yup, you’ll find it with Divine. They have eight cute colors to choose from.

So what’s the answer to my twine troubles?

Enter: Country Clean Paper Supplies. Why, yes, that photo is a two-pound cone of baby blue and white baker’s twine. For $8.95, you can buy 3,400 yards of twine in a variety of colors (including blue and baby blue!). Hooray! At first I was a little worried because of the banner and kind of strangely set up website that this company wouldn’t be legit, but I dug around a little more and found quite a few bloggers that had ordered twine from said website. Count me in!

Anybody else determined to get some twine?!

For other people looking for a deal, I’m looking to sell my leftover red/white baker’s twine (and other red/white supplies, like clothespins and striped straws).

$25 OBO!

i bought the oyster colored twine from divine twine, and i love it! i used it to tie my wedding invitations, which are purple and gray. (i was disappointed i couldn’t find any purple twine, but the gray turned out so nice. i used mrs. lobster’s tying tutorial.

Love the way twine looks but not sure if it will fit with our imagined and not yet solidified motif…

OMG! I was going through this last week! I went to Michael’s, Joanne’s, and Bed Bath & Beyond and all the store people looked at me like I was crazy, “Baker’s…. twine….?!” So I finally broke down and bought from an etsy seller some pink and red baker’s twine. I have no idea what I’ll use it for other than what I’m thinking of right now, but I just have to have this!

Thanks for sharing. I wanted twine really bad, but I couldn’t reconcile the cost.

I fell in love with the apple green Divine Twine and even though I didn’t have an immdiate use for it decided to buy a spool. I’ve used it to tie together pairs of flip flops for the basket so far but I’m thinking of tying it around my invitations once I get around to designing them :)

I found some great baker’s twine colors at The Twinery too…they offer a sampler pack which you can get 15 yards of each of their colors for under $15! http://www.thetwinery.com

I ordered the lime green bakers twine and am VERY unhappy with the color. It is not a “lime” green…more of a plain regular green. I called to verify before ordering and was assured that this was a “true” lime green. It’s NOT!! I called the company and told them that I was unhappy and they basically said that I could pay to send it back. They did not offer to pay the shipping or anything. VERY UNHAPPY with this company. Do not buy from them if you want a “true” lime green.

@sarah M.: I’m so glad I read this, Sarah M! I was wondering if the lime might be close enough to Apple Green for my wedding stuff…. I might just get black and white to be safe…

@sarah M.: Hi Sarah. Sorry your twine wasn’t the color that was assured. :( But I was wondering if it might match the colors I’m looking for. Is it more kelly green? hunter green?
